Default Question on a serial # of my Model 41

I recently purchased a Model 41 with a serial number of UCL 5418. The spent shell that came with it is dated 07-14-10 and signed by Lee F. The Rimfire Central list says 1997-98. I can't figure out what the story is. I have called S&W and get lost in the wait for a tech.

Any Ideas?

Did you but the gun new? The SCSW seems to agree with the 97-98 date. If the gun had been on the shelf at the factory for a long time, then they could have included the fired case when it finally went to a distributor. Although the 41 is a great gun and I would never sell mine, they dont move near as many of them as they do of other models.

Yes, it was new. I was there when the dealer called the distributor.

I believe it was a late / new build with an older frame. Common knowledge that the factory really doesnt care about making guns in numerical order. Call them and ask!

I called today and asked. The gun was made in July. It was test fired 14 july 2010. The tech said not to believe anything on the Internet relating to serial numbers.
