I have a 4006 "Heavy Barrel" - What does the heavy barrel mean?
I just got another S&W today...an as new in box 4006, but the box is marked "heavy barrel" in the marking area on the end. What does "heavy barrel" mean? I don't have a normal 4006 to compare it with.

Not the best photos with a camera phone, but I think you'll see the "heavy barrel" on the box end and an idea what the barrel profile is. Thanks for any information you may have.

a call to SW might be in order.

It looks like a standard 4006 barrel to me also.
Nice pistol.

Perfect! I'm glad it's not an abnormal 4006 with difficult to find spare parts. What I was hoping for when I purchased it was just a nice, normal 4006.

It may have been a special order with a different rifling twist for heavy bullets. In the early days of the .40 caliber there was a little uncertainty with which twist was best for the caliber.

We need some micrometer measurements
.030-060 in diameter would be hard to see in pics

I'll phone S&W on Tuesday and see what they say about the heavy barrel. I don't see anything unusual about the pistol, but I also can't see whey S&W would put that on the box if there wasn't something to it.

Heavy Barrel
I have one too! The barrel does not appear any different than a standard 4006 barrel to me.

I was issued an agency 4006 with a " Barstow" (sp?) barrel that was supposed to be more accurate than a stock barrel. Wasn't any better in my opinion. I don't know if it was stock or after market, but could this type of upgrade be what someone considered "heavy"?
