One day old 22a going back
Took my new 22a to the range today. I have an older one that I really like so this time I bought a fancier one with polished sides and hi viz front sight. When I first started shooting I couldn't even get them on the paper. I finally realized I was shooting high. Cranked the sight all the way down, still shooting high. The biggest problem though was the magazine kept releasing every couple of shots. Sometimes every shot. I made sure it was firmly inserted and it clicked every time. Did it with the two new magazines and several others that I have. Sent for a repair shipping label.
One day old! Anyone else have similar trouble?

My 22A-1 has been back to the factory twice for a persistent jam. In fact, it did it on its first shot, and continues to exhibit the same jam. It will fire one round, extract the empty casing, but not feed the next round, and the slide will not open more than 1/4". It takes at least 5 minutes of tugging to get the slide to open, often more. I thought it had neen fixed after its last vacation at the factory, as it operated flawlessly for a couple hundred rounds ;however, I took it out this morning, and it did it again on the firdt round. Seems S&W closed early today, Ill try to reach them Thursday to arrange for yet snother shipping label. The slide definitely hangs up on a physical obstruction, but the factory people don't seem to understand that. I really want to like the gun, but it is really frustrating. Hope you have better luck than I have so far. BTW, they replaced the magazine catch on its first trip, locks the magazine more securely now. I think there may be some quality control problems with 22A production in recent years.

I just bought one and have only put 150 rounds thru it. The magazine wasnt feeding properly ( happened twice ) once I got the mag full I gave it a good tap on the palm of my hand, didnt happen after that. Not sure if it helped...will find out next time I go to the range.

Smooth running since day one except for maybe 2 fte's.
Uses any ammo I throw at it.
Great value.

My grandson's other grandfather bought the boy a 22a1 a year ago.The first one cracked the frame in three months.Smith replaced it.The second one lasted about four months and the frame cracked in the same place.Smith replaced it.Got the last one in May,three trips to the range and the frame cracked in the same place. The man is not a moron or a bubba. He shoots IDPA with an M&P Pro.The boy never has the gun by himself.Ammo is all normal wally world stuff. He's not happy. He doesn't want another one.He is at a loss and so am I.Smith & Wesson never questions anything they just keep sending him a new one.

went to the range yesterday and put 200rds thru it and had zero problems...adjusted the sights and it dialed right in. Very happy with it.

Finally got her back today. After a one week snafu waiting for the shipping label and two week vacation at Smith & Wesson. Took it to the range and it performed well. Sighted her in. Shot well. Only a couple of failure to eject which I blame on the cheap ammo. Put in some good stuff and had zero issues. I'm happy!

I have had a 22a for about 5 months. After almost 1000 rnds, I have had zero issues caused by the pistol.
I have had 1 self inflicted issue, caused by the location of the mag release button. There were several occasions where a tight grip, with a finger laying directly across the the mag release button, caused the button to be slightly depressed, just enough for the mag to move out of position just enough that I would have failure to feeds. This happened to my wife as well. Adjusting the grip solved that issue.
Other than the issue mentioned, I have had no problems, and love shooting the gun. It is much more accurate than I am.
