Is This Model 39 (No Dash) All Original?
Does anyone know if the contrasting color lettering on this model 39 No Dash is original, or something done later to enhance the look. Its the same on both the S&W logo and "Pat's Pending" lettering on the right side.

Hello wlp, Nice old gun. I bought a new one just like it back in the day. The lettering is almost certainly the result of someone using one of the Bonanza, or similar, paint kits to fill in the factory lettering. The kits were commonly available in white, gold, silver and red too, IIRC. I have owned quite a few S&Ws over the last 45 years or so and have never seen a factory original gun with the lettering and numbers filled in like that.
I believe you'd find that the color is easily removed with something like GunScrubber and a Q-Tip or similar...ymmv

Common enhancement, usually done with a white china marker, comes off with alcohol and a brush......

Thanks Guys,
Its for sale on one of the auction sites, and I would consider buying it if this were a variation, but I already have a nice 39 No Dash, so I'll just pass on by.

It may be the lighting, but that gun looks almost too shiny. Where is it listed for sale, and are there additional pictures??

It looks righteous to me, a very nice gun. In that serial number range, it could be a steel frame version, but unfortunately the long tang says it's not.
