Default 3913 Handling Marks, clean off

Hello All,

I recently got a 3913 and on the slide there are what I call handling marks. Lines that you can not feel like a scratch, just lines on the slide. Random in direction and length. Mainly on the barrel end.

Is there something to polish the marks out with out making it look funny or maybe 1000 grit or 1500 grit wet and dry.

You have to hold it just right in the light to see them.

The body looks perfect.

Thanks Jim

Green Scotchbrite pads will take care of the slide UNLESS the slide markings are laser-etched like the TSW series or even recently made standard versions (the Scotchbrite will remove the markings). Post a pic of your slide's left side if you're unsure.

I'll get a pic tomorrow in the light.

Where would I look for a green scotchbrite pad. Wife has some blue ones.

Thanks Jim

Looked at it again. The wording on the left side is stamped into the metal.

Another question? Can the rear novak sight be slid out after the Allen screw is loosened, or does it have to be drifted out?

Would be nice if I could remove it while I scotchbrite the slide.

Thanks Jim

Green Scotchbrite pads can be found at Wal-Mart in the cleaning section. Try the area where they have the dish soap, etc.

The rear sight can be drifted out to the right as you look at the back of the slide once the allen-screw is removed. The sight holds the magazine disconnect plunger and spring and I believe the drop safety plunger and spring in place to be aware of that if you drift the sight out. When I did one they didn't fly out but three hands will be a blessing when you put them back in and drift the sight back in.

If the words are stamped, you should be able to go nuts with the Scotchbrite pad without reservation. I don't think you'd actually have to remove the sight, just avoid it as it sounds your issues are farther forward than the rear sight although I'd hit the whole slide for uniformity but you don't need/won't be able to get into every nook and cranny enough to wreck the finish on the rear sight. You also shouldn't need to really grind on the thing to blend those marks, go with more light passes than fewer heavy ones.

Please someone correct me if I'm giving bad advice, I'm going off personal experience and don't want to get anyone in trouble.

Thanks Scotter,

Think I'll just put a piece of tape around the sight to protect. I tend to get carried away sometimes.

You are correct, the marks are mainly on the front of the slide and look like a mark you might get from rubbing it against a hard holster material.

As anouther poster said, Dremel Tools should come with a waiting period, same goes with scotchbrite pads....................

The Scotchbrite pads will change to look of the finish. You may not like the results.

I used to hang around a bike shop that had a bead blast machine and used it to clean stuff. Thinking about sticking the slide in and giving it a blast. I am thinking the scotchbrite will give it a shiny surface.
