Other than size, is there any real difference between the 6906 and the 5906?

6906 is a lot lighter in weight.

Yep, 6906 has an alloy frame, 5906 is all steel. You can use the higher cap 5906 mags in the smaller 6906, but they will protrude from the grip.

In the same condition, would they be worth about the same money?

The compact 6906 which is lighter and conceals better would be worth more money

Two of the best 9mms made in my opinion. I give a slight edge to the 6906 due to size.

Been kicking myself in the butt ever since.

In my experience the 5906 is a better range, nightstand and all-around fun gun due to the extra weight reducing recoil and the 6906 is a great defensive carry tool. Both are excellent guns, I picked up my first 6906 earlier this year and have my second 5906 (foolishly sold the first) on layaway right now.

The all-steel 5906 makes for a great shooting range gun due to its heavier weight and full size grip.

The 6906 makes for a great carry gun due to its lesser weight. Some folks dislike the shorter grip and lighter weight for extended shooting, though.

The 5903 strikes a balance between the two, with an alloy frame for lighter wegiht than the steel-framed 5906 and a full length grip.

I carried 5903's & 6906's for many years. I liked both, and prefer the 6906 for carry.

Oddly enough, I prefer the straight grip on the 59XX guns (which comes standard on the 4006), and dislike the Hogue grips on them ... but I actually prefer the wrap-around Hogue grips on the 69XX/40XX guns, even though the added finger groove increase the grip's girth. Go figure.

The standard 6906 has a fingertip extension that hangs below the bottom of the grip approximately the same distance as the 15rd mag from the 5906 using the S&W mag adapter.

But, for me, I actually prefer the "feel" of the 5906 mag using the adapter better than I do the standard 13rd mag with the fingertip extension.

Visually, using the mag from the 5906 (&adapter) there is no apparent "protrusion" using the longer mag vs the standard mag, and it looks "factory"..

Plus 2 free rounds...

P.S. My opinion would be that the heavier 5906 would make a better "home defense" choice (and in fact does that for us w/CT Lasergrips), while the more compact 6906 would be better for EDC, CC..

Crimson Trace does not (to my knowledge) make a set of Lasergrips for the 6906.

Affirmative! They do not... Neither does anybody else... I've looked everywhere for any kind of laser for my 6906, and found nothing but frustration.

Still a great firearm, even if you actually have to use the sights.
