Default 457 fair market price

A shop near me has a 457, no box and only one mag. I was told $349 on the price. Exterior looks good. Interior is dirty but from what I can tell, it hasn't been fired too much. Is $349 a fair value or is closer to $300 a true market price?

The last two gun shows I was at in Indiana had a 457 at each. I believe one was $360 OTD and the other was $375 OTD. Neither were any better than 85%.

I would think $349 was good and, if I could talk them into $349 out-the-door, would likely buy it. I'm no S&W SA expert, but I do like their .45s.

I would be happy anywhere between 3 and 350.

For $350 you should get 2 mags.

Try to knock him down, if not buy it. They are a great .45. Mine has had a couple of thousand rounds through it and not a burp. No jams, no problem. Eats everything you feed it. Never seen one cheaper than $300.

Don't dicker with him. Buy it.......and even for more if necessary. They are great guns, extremely reliable, accurate, easy to carry, soft shooting for a small and light 45.......and they don't make them anymore. Hurry!

That price looks fair but as others have said I would at least try and get it OTD for that. Spare mags are not as plentiful as say, 1911 mags and will set you back some (no used ones laying around). These are great guns and it is a shame that even used a "Value Line" pistol will set you back that much but compare it to what people are paying for KelTecs & LCP Rugers and such and $350 for a real handgun does not look that bad. I paid 3 something for mine last year and with tax, etc. have $350 in it. I found one mag at a pawn shop (along with a couple of 645 mags, it was a good day) and bought the another spare from Midway so have $400 in my set up. A little heavy for carry (I prefer my 4040PD for that) but a comforting pistol for sure. I also shoot my 457 better then my 645, but then I shot my Glock 27 better then my Glock 22 so maybe I just like "small" pistols. Now get off the Internet and go buy that sweet thing! I am going to take my own advise and go lay down some green at a local pawn shop this evening for a SP101 that is calling me.

I would say that both of you would be buying excellent guns. I like them both (457 and SP101).

I paid $475 for mine It came with orginal case and paperwork, 3 mags and a fair amount of holster wear. Working parts are good shape. I think this is on the high end of pricing. I just wanted a 457 and this was a convenient local ftf

My first post here. I've been visiting for a few years, and I've enjoyed reading, and learning. I'm a bit of a colletor of S&W autos and have 3 so far. I've been casually casting about for models that interest me, such as the 457.

I'd say if it is truely 85%, that is a good price. It's quite common to see 90% and above going in the mid $400s. It's no secret that S&W 9s and 45s, especially the 3913 and 4513TSWs are going up in value as the supply is dwindling. There is a gun shop in Alaska that has 3 NIB 4513s, asking $650 each.

Many out of production S&W autos are also getting picked up regularly. It is getting to the point that very well kept pistols go quickly, and for increasing higher prices. Just my opinions,

A 457 is next on my Get One List. For you guys that have one...got a question.

I hear and read lots of concerns with 3rd generation S&W .45acp's having a problem with not shooting to the point of aim. I forget if it is typically high or low...but is one or the other, even with 230 grain ammo.

Is this tue?

I have two 3rd Gen 45's, a 4586 and 4516 and both shoot to POA with 230 grain ammo. I use 3" Shoot and See targets and aim center of target. Both guns have factory sights.

Mine shoots at POA.
One of those great firearms that has been overlooked by many. Easy carry piece, super accurate, and ultra reliable with anything I have ever fed it.
When I bought mine I let my brother and a friend shoot it and they both went and bought their own! It's been carried so much it started to look a little rough. So I decided to give it new life and performed my own light carry melt and had the slide, mags and internals NP3'd by Robar. Great gun. Grab one if you can, you'll have no regrets.

My 457 is pretty close but the 4566 TSW has shot low and a bit left from day one...could be me, however. The 4506 shoots a bit low but not as bad as the 4566 TSW.

Col,

I would wager that it is you. Are you shooting right-handed? If so, low left indicates that when you press the trigger, you are also tightening your other fingers, pulling the pistol down and to the left.

Hope this helps.

Cat-Very possibly so and I certainly won't discount that. I am right handed. What's puzzling is why I can shoot the 457 or even my G19 Glock and hit POA(or pretty close). It could be a weight factor since both the 4506 and 4566 are considerably heavier than either of the former two.

I feel strongly that 3rd generations might be some of the best ever manufactured. Every one I own is extremely reliable, handles great, has a relatively good trigger, goes bang every time (see reliable) and carries well. Hitting point of aim depends on the skills of the shooter and the ammo, not the gun. Thirds are great POI guns, but it still gets down to the ammo and abilities of the shooter. The best way to determine the Point of Impact is off a sand bag or similar rest. Once you determine it will print, then work on your skills. Kind of simple if you think about it.

I think that's a well known fact by most folks. Never hurts to be reminded I suppose.

My 457S, 4516, 4586 all shoot to POA with 230gr ammo at 25 yards. The 4506 is slightly low.

But I have to agree on all counts that 3rd gen S&W autos are one of the most overlooked bargains out there, almost like good revolvers were 10-15 years ago while everyone went GlockGaaGaa. Too bad. And for those of us who really like them and know what they are and can do, let's hope it stays that way .
