Default 5946 and 5906TSW with integral rails

Before selling my last 5906TSW with integral rail I didn't get a chance to take a picture of it with my 5946. I traded into this second 5906 and it's nice out so I thought I'd take a picture of them together.

According to my call to Smith and Wesson, the 5946 is in the single digits for production numbers but they don't give exact numbers but is in line with information KurtC, SmithNut and snw19_357 have provided in the past about these. I know I need to letter it but other "needs" keep popping up.

Smith stated that the 5906 is less than 100 for production numbers but not substantially less than 100. They stated Lew Horton ordered it but the rep. at Lew's states it was an over-run.

Both of them are very nice looking pistols. Have you shot either of them? If so, how are they?

Both are great-looking guns, but the 5906 really catches my eye. I'd love to find one of those someday!

I have not shot the 5906 as it was traded into with the thought that it would be easier to sell than that which was traded. Both of the integral-railed 5906s I've had came from the same dealer and both were sold to me as NIB having come from Lew's. Don't you have one of these Palmetto? Seems to me I recall you posting a pic on another site.

I've put about 300 rounds through the 5946 and it is a shooter likely due to how heavy it is. If they produced it as a possible duty pistol I can't figure out why they didn't do it in a 5943 as it'd be easier to fathom carrying for a shift.

No, I don't have one. If I'd had the cash, I would have bought yours. My wife has other plans though .

I know this is an old post but I was wondering if anyone would know the possibility of finding a 3rd gen with integral rails and where to be looking for them.

Thanks!

You really have to look for them. You better have the big bucks too! Have you searched GB?

It sounds like you've been stalking them longer than I have. How much should one expect to pay for any of the railed 3rd gens? I see the one on GB now but I didn't know if that was a fair price. I like the 4566 but I like the 59xx better. That being said, I know you can't be picky when finding unicorns.

Well, "I'm no expert, but I play one on the Internet!"

From my limited experience, all the TSW's are getting scarcer. The most common seem to be the TSW's with the riveted on rail, then the no rail models, & the rarest of all: the integral rail TSW's. This is just what I've found to be true, your experience may vary. The price ranges are wide. The railed models seem to be anywhere from $475 to $600, the non rail models from $575 on up, & the integral rail models...I haven't seen one for less than a grand. The variances with all will be does it have box & docs, & of course condition. Happy Hunting!

I found out about these through another member's post and wanted one as soon as I saw it but they are unicorns,
having lettered it there were 5 of these sent to company in Minnesota for Meloniting and calling Smith they
indicated that based on the product number production numbers are in the single digits. I bought this from a
member here who had it on Gunbroker and IIRC he didn't get any bids so I made an offer and he accepted.
I believe I sold one of two integrally-railed 5906TSWs to fund the purchase. I think it cost me $900-1000
at the time.

I can't remember what the 5906TSWs cost me but I did find two at a local dealer who had a
very good relationship with a rep at Lew Horton's. I know I traded in a Bushmaster 20" A2 gov't profiled 1/7 rifle
I special-ordered for one because I knew I could sell the 5906 for more than I could the Bushy. Both the
integrally-railed 5906TSWs were sold to fund other purchases but I can't recall what I paid for each - I think
they were less than $850 but I'm not sure - the one I traded into was definitely less.
These are non-TSW 5946s. I'm also fairly certain we've got 4 of these accounted for from members here who
have them.

I found this second one at the same dealer where I found the 5906s as a used pistol - it had a slightly different
product number due to being used. I think I paid just over $850 for it and sold it almost immediately to another
member here for $925 but he was so happy to get it he actually sent me $1000.

I don't have any photos of the integrally-railed 5906TSWs but there's a member here who still has one of them
that I sold him so maybe he'll stop in to share pics. I never lettered one of those because I never intended to
keep them as I don't like DA/SA. When I called Smith though they said that based on product number there
were less than 100 of those (they won't give specific numbers, just ranges - at least in my experience.)

This same dealer also sold me a 5904TSW (bolt-on rail) and a 3914TSW. He's since given up his license but I
was always nervous going to the store because I knew there'd be something in the case trying to convince me
to part with my money.
