my LGS has the new SD line of autos in....i have both put back on hold for a few days...need to make up my mind on what cal. to get..i have already...

the SD & SIGMA mags will work in either gun

Get the SD9. I just like 9mm more than .40. Less expensive to shoot/practice, low recoil(not as "Snappy" as .40, etc, etc.

I have both, recoil is almost identical. I mainly got the 9mm for my wife. I say man up and get the .40. If you really need the 2 extra rounds it's called a mag change. Seriously though I really see too many benefits to the .40 to not carry the it.

yea i think i will go for the 40 cal....wife wont let me get both dammit.

If you want a soft recoiling target gun, get the 9. If you want a hard hitting defence gun, get the .40

I'd get the .40, but that's just because I want an SD40!

I have never found a good reason for a 9mm. If I need something much smaller for concealment/back-up I will go with a 380 loaded with ranger, other wise I will carry a 40F or 40C. I like the 357 sig and would go that way before a 9mm.

This is the way I look at it... 40cal costs roughly 30% more to practice with. As a budget conscious consumer, that means I can get 30% more trigger time on the 9mm without breaking the bank. That extra time honing my skill is worth a great deal more to me than the nominal difference in stopping power (and no I will not be sucked into a debate over how much or how little difference there is in stopping power between a 9mm and 40).

40 if your gonna get one get the 40. No since in paying the same price and getting the smaller caliber. I am not knocking the 9mm i have and carry a G19 . I want a SD in 40 also. Where i live their is only a dollar difference between 9 and 40 ammo

BUT JOSH, we could debate the % in "stopping" power VS quality trigger time VS cost% VS ... LOL

Cost here is about 1-2 bucks a box. When reloading though it goes down tremendously.

Not sure who tricked you into thinking the .40 was so much harder hitting than the 9mm, but they must have been using mall ninja logic. If you want capacity get the 9mm, if you want power get something in .45acp.

here is one for you, get which ever one you will shot the best, be it the 9 with a little less recoil or the 40, stopping power only counts if you can hit what you are trying to stop. If you are recoil sensitive then man up and double what you are paying and get a H&K, they are by far the easiest pistols i have ever shot and own, in 9,40 and 45. Yes i do have other's and one is a brand spanking new sd 9 (nine). I've been an m&p and sigma fan(thought sigmas shot great just that darn trigger pull) but all are great weapons but again, if recoil is what is the issue by h&k.

I know I am replying on this debate a little late but which one did u end up going with. The 9 or 40. I just recently. Bought a sd40 and I love it. The only issue I have is not with the gun but with the rumors going around about smith and wesson discontinuing the Sd line altogether.

Around here .40 ammo spotty but available, 9mm extinct. Got me thinking about a .40 sooner than later.
