Default My new 3913, whatcha think?

Picked up my new to me 3913 from Cabelas last night...$399 (had to get a Cabelas Club Card for $100 voucher)...Came with 5 mags, Box, & papers. By the label on the box, can you tell me anything about the original order, etc. or is that only a S&W request? What year manufactured?

Very nice 3913, congrats! Looks brand new.

Doesn't get any better than that in a concealeable, reliable self defense pistol. Enjoy yours! Regards 18DAI.

Nice, very nice 3913. That and the 6906 are great 9mm carry pieces.

You know, there's a bit of a story that I'm struggling with. Bought it right before closing time last night, I actually inspected it 4 days ago, taked to one of the guys in the Gun Library earlier yesterday (asked him what condition they would appraise it at, he said "as close to 100% as it gets"...Once I got the blessing from my SWMBO, I shot back to the store an hour before closing & bought it without further inspection (my bad)...

The few rookies working there had stuffed the 4 extra mags in the box with the pistol several times with all their cross checking of serial numbers & paperwork that they do (the box flaps wouldn't even close completely) & one guy walked it out the door for me. It was dark out, got in my truck & went home to show of my prize. I noticed several marks on the slide, both sides that I think might have been caused by the mags @ the counter! The marks are really only visible @ angles. Now I wonder if I should bring it back up to them. Would a 98% pistol have marks on the slide? I swear I didn't see them prior to purchasing. With Cabelas customer service reputation, maybe they would have it refinished?

For the price you paid I would not look back.

You have $150 worth just in magazines. You got a great deal. I wanted a 3913 but ended up getting a 908 but I plan on carrying mine every day and it will pick up plenty of dings. Have fun with your 3913.

Wow, that is a great looking 3913, and the price was more than right. When you get karma going this good it might be a good idea to pick up a couple of lottery tickets.

Getting my wife's "blessing", I had to promise a family trip to Indy to see her family (Brownsburg), Kentucky (friend), then pass through Tennesse, then on to Alabama (to see her Brother), then on to Georgia (to see her Step Mom) ...The price we pay, it's all OK!

I understand how you feel about the marks on the slide.

I kept my 3913 minty looking for several years. One afternoon, upon returning from the range, I placed the two pistols I'd been shooting, 3913 and Kimber 1911, on the bed while opening the safe.

The Kimber was perched on top of its case. When I went to pick up the Kimber, it slid off the case and across the 3913 below it.

One long scratch across the slide of my 3913. I was quite disappointed and annoyed at my carelessness.

The good news? Like the scratches on your 3913 slide, it was only visible at certain angles, and with my 3913 developing........"character" I did not baby it any longer. I shot it constantly, carried it everywhere, and used it as it was intended - a superior concealed weapon that you could bet your life on.

As time has passed and my 3913 has continued to be my almost daily companion, holster wear has all but removed her.....scar.

But scar or not, the 3913 is a beauty in my eyes. While I find it to be a most asthetically pleasing semi auto, the real beauty is in its function. Hope this helps! Regards 18DAI.

Dave, here is the reality of it. You bought it as a carry gun, correct? It will eventually have more minor marks in the slide and frame. Ask me how I know. My 3913 has been carried and shot all over Alaska and it has always performed perfectly each and every time. In a 9mm you can not do better then this pistol without going to the fancy custom guns. You were going to shoot it right? Go shoot it and enjoy one of S&W's greatest semi autos ever. Kyle

Very nice find and a good price, too. I picked up a 4013 off of Gun Broker recently and had a post about the born-on date. In that post, I was told that the SPEC ORD is the Julian date of manufacture. If I am reading your box correctly, it says 4007, which would indicate it was manufactured the 7th day of 1994.

Thumbs up I'm soooo envious

Look, lets get real. A 3913 for what you paid, and you should worry about some marks? I got my hands on a Lady Smith for around the same price and the former owner buffed off the words Lady Smith on the right side of the slide. (must have had a gender issue) It messed up the finish for sure, but that gun is my daily carry piece, it never fails and is a tack driver. I should take it back? Anyone who wants that gun will have to pry it from my hands. You got a great deal, way to go. Like Alde said, don't look back. Of course you should send it to me for a thorough inspection, say about twenty years worth just to make sure it's safe to shoot. Congrats on your purchase, may your relationship with Mr. 3913 be a long and healthy one. Just pay attention to Kyle, AKA alaskavett, up above.
