In safe magazine storage?
Since I have been building my collection of Smith 3rd Gen autos my magazine collection has been growing. I like to keep the mags in my safe unless it's for a range trip, my carry gun or the nightstand gun.
I was thinking of somehow attaching lenghts of silicone tube accross the inside of the safe door to hold the mags against the door using the rubber band effect. Anybody have any other ideas? I could make room for 2 more pistols if the mags were out of the way .

Just curiosity...why do you keep your mags in your safe? Concern with theft?
I keep all my mags in a set of plastic drawers next to my safe. I don't worry about someone stealing them...maybe I should, because replacing them all would be somewhat expensive, but I just never felt the need to lock them up.

My thought is part theft but also if somebody breaks in and sees all these different mags they may be more encouraged to find a way into the safe. Same with holsters. Maybe I am putting too much into it. Maybe a plastic bin on top of the safe would work fine. With ammo they may see 45 ACP but that dosen't tell them that there are 5 pistols in the safe that shoot 45 ACP. The mags would. Does this make sense?

Sentry gun safes has an arrangement like what you describe on the rear of their doors.. it's elastic (bungee) cord criss crossed in an X pattern. I bought a bunch of zippered nylon storage cases/pouches and stuck them under the cord.
Ona bare bones safe, I used add-on auto map pockets with an elastic band on the top opening that hold them closed. I glued on magnetic tape strips on the back of the pouch to stick onto the inside metal door panel. I could have use sheet metal screws but didn't want to drill the panel, plus with the mag tape they were re-positionable.
Take a walk through an auto parts store or Wallyworld and take a look in the auto accessories section... lots of storage gizmo's there that can be adapted for use.

I keep all my extra mags. in an ammo can next to the safe. Out of site, out of mind and still easily accessible. It also keeps the safe uncluttered and gives me extra room in there for more guns and other small items that I keep in there.

I use 1/2" tall rare-earth magnets... strong enough to hold a loaded magazine against a side wall of the safe, portable, and cheap!

I use a plastic container with a lid from Walmart kept under the bed out of sight. The mags for each gun are grouped together in a sock, both to keep them together for quick identification and use and to keep them from rattling around in the box.

I use a hollowed out book on the night table to keep the mags in. I also have a safe with the bungie type material.

Yes, I understand...in fact, I have one safe for my pistols, and my ammo is in another safe (two medium size safes, not one big one...which I wish I had gotten to start with.) I was thinking along the same lines. I didn't really give a thought to the mags.
Thanks for giving me something else to worry about!
J/K....
I guess I need to buy one huge safe, for guns, ammo, mags, and room for MORE guns!

Thanks for all the ideas. I will try a couple of things and see what works best. My safe does have the criss crossed bungee cords on the door but it's too loose to hold magazines.

Go to a store that carries cloth, sewing supplies, etc. They have 2" wide velcro, the velcro wooly side has adhesive backing. Stick this on the door or surface of a safe place. put your mags on and secure them down with the other piece. This lets you put various size mags together, the outside piece of velcro acts as an adjustable strap to the size of the mag. I've been using this method for years ever since velcro came out. Just another idea. Have a good & safe day.
