Default Mod 6592 - RSR 3299

Does anybody know anything about these? I was at the range and somebody noticed me shooting it. They said I was crazy for running rounds through it and they said there were only 249 of them made?

Any truth to that? I can't find any information on this particular model so here I am...

Thanks for any information about this gun. I've had it for about 22 years and rarely bring it out so information on it is greatly appreciated.

I got nothin' as far as first-hand knowledge of the model is concerned.

Perhaps give S&W a call and verify?

The 659-2 is a transitional model, between the 659 and the 6906 IIRC.

Actually the 659-to-5906 transition model. Some had the one-piece grips and some had the front dovetailed sights of third generation guns. They are rare but basically using up leftover parts, I would shoot and enjoy it and not worry about it being highly collectible in the future.

Thank you for the responses.

@ Handgunner356 -- you got it. One piece grip with the front dovetailed sights. I'll stick to your suggestion but with more care on handling it from here on out.

I have friends that own pretty much everything imaginable and they really enjoy shooting it. From what I have been able to verify... only 249 of them were made... really tough to find information on it.

Regardless... shoots nice and worst case scenario.. trying to find information on it brought me here. Besides that... I always enjoy owning something that nobody else owns...

Hi I also own a RSR 6592. It is the one that was on Gunbroker a few weeks ago. I had quite a few questions from buyers as could be expected. One of the potential buyers contacted RSR to try to get more info than I could provide. The RSR rep said the guns were just a production run for them with their serial numbers. The guns were made up from second and third gen components. Not much else.

My thought is that the fact that the entire family of guns from RSR is called out in the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson gives a sense of history or that there is something special about this production run.

I have been looking for RSR guns for over year and trying to collect each of them. The prices are fairly high but I don't see much selling. I was fortunate to get my 6592 at a great price though.

I am very happy with my gun. It is a great shooter and nice collectible to me. I was trying to sell mine to pay a few bills but I have decided to keep and enjoy my 6592.

I put this list together from info in the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson. If I remember correctly the info was not all in one place but as looked at each model....all the sudden the light bulb goes off and I realize all of the serial numbers and production data was there over a few pages. The 6453 is still a mystery though.

Going off a letter I have from Roy Jinks the 6453 was serial numbered between RSR0093 -RSR0177 ..the 6450 was serial #RSR0001-RSR0092 with a total of 177 of the two models produced (combined).

I have a NIB 6590 . I bought it here years ago , where it was sitting for a while . The bible doesn't give numbers , but it does say rare , very rare , etc. Good luck on trying to collect these . When I first got mine I was going to try , but you might as well go looking for a drink of water in the desert .

I have a few of the transitional models. Most of them you would never know what they are without the box. My 6450 just says 645 on the pistol, my 6590 just says 659, my 4590 says 459, and my 9150 just says 915. Odd thing is that my 9150 isn’t even listed in the book. They pop up from time to time but you better be on your toes and ready to pay if anyone else knows what they are.

Haven't seen a 915 with 9150 on the label (yet), and the value line wasn't introduced until 4 years after the 3rd gens.

Sweet! Are they all in the TBY range?
I've seen the 4590 in blue and stainless (special pre-5903 order).

Although these are transitional (early producrtion) and most likely have all 3rd gen parts, the RSR prefix aren't transitional but put together in the ealry 90's for RSR to use up left over 2nd gen parts.
