I want to replace my sight from my 52... I have loosened and removed the set screw and the sight slides right and left about a millimeter but then comes to a stop both directions. I do not want to force it if there is more to the procedure.
If you have personal experience please let me know. Then be clear as to whether it must go to the right or left as the two sides are different.
Been a while but don't you need to remove the safety to allow the sight to be removed? Or was it remove the sight to get the safety out? Note parts 10 and 11 on the slide. I believe you have to remove the safety first. The spring and plunger push against the rear sight most likely that is why you are only getting a small right to left movement on the loosened sight.
http://www.brownells.com see schematics at the bottom of the page. Go to Smith and Wesson then model 52 R2 to check the parts on the slide upper left corner on the schematic.
The SIGHT has to come off 1st, pushes, left to right, then the ejector depressor plunder and spring come out. The rear sight keep those parts in the slide .
Make sure you take the sight off in the right direction as mentioned in previous posts or you will do one of two things: Shear some of the spring off under the sight or jamb some of the spring in the sight dovetail and have a devil of a time getting the sight off. Don't ask me how I know.
