Question 745 Cocked and Locked???

My S&W 745 #DVC 14XX IPSC 10th Anniversary will block the hammer when the safety is applied but the hammer will drop when the trigger is depressed. The hammer block will efectively halt the hammer before contacting the firing pin but to me, cocked and locked infers the hammer is locked back. I can dry fire the pistol and drop the hammer with the safety engaged but now the hammer is at rest down on the hammer blocking devise. Is there a malfunction in my pistol???

Thank you Palmetto Sharpshooter. I thought so. I've carried S&Ws for over 40 years and they never let me down. The purpose of my question was that I just bought the M745 IPSC yesterday and I hoped no one tinkered with it. I'm new to the 745s but not S&Ws and mine have always digested anything that fits in thre magazines and go bang every time I press the go button.

Cocked and BLOCKED! meaning the firing pin is blocked from the firing pin.

Yes, that's one of the things I dislike about the S/A Smiths, that they can drop the hammer on the safety bar.
