Where can I find information on how to determine when / what year my 4053 was made ?

The first three letters and couple of digits of your serial number someone here will get you close. You can call S&W and they can tell you the exact ship date from your serial number. If you have the single stack pre-TSW 4053 then it was somewhere between '91-97.

The best and most accurate way is to give S&W a call, and ask for a ship date. You could also post as much of the serial number as you feel comfortable with and X out the rest, like VJD66XX and we can give you an estimate from our experience and the SCSW 3rd.

My 4013 is TVDxxx and S&W told me it was shipped in 1992, and my 4053, sn TVMxxx was March 1993. It appears that yours is right in between.

Do you have the box it came in? I'm not sure when they started, but there might be a 4-digit 'SPEC ORD" number on the box. The first digit is the year (3 = 1993, 4 = 1994, etc.) and the next three digits represent the day of the year it was made, i.e., 314 would be the 314th day of the year.

From my study I would have to guess 1992.
