Default Is This Possible?

Since my dream pistol obviously wont be made (4506 with a rail), would it be possible to fit a 4506 slide and barrel assembly to a 4566TSW frame? I've seen a 4506 slide fitted to a 4516 frame, so I was wondering if the same would work with a 4566TSW frame. What do you guys think?

I believe they are different (4506 slide rails and 4566TSW frame rails)

and will not work.

I just tried swapping a 645 slide to a 4563TSW frame, would not fit. Don't know if the 4506 and 645 is that much different.

Why don't you have a Dawson rail installed on your 4506? Well I checked and see they are only made for 1911's and Surefire lights so might not work. Might not be possible to adapt to a 4506 but I would think with enough silver solder.....

I know a lot of folks take the rails off of TSW's might be able to locate one on these and have the dust cover drilled and tapped.

The dust covers on the non-TSW guns were considered too weak for a rail, hence the TSW guns. But I have seen people add those 1911 rails to their 3rd Gens before. Not sure if I would do it myself but it is an option.

Personally I wish they would make a 4506 with an integral rail.

A 4506 with an integral rail like the CHP pistols would be a dream come true. There is a 4546 on GB right now that has a Novak rail added on, and I wasn't too keen on it. Well, back to the drawing board........

I owned a sweet 4546 that I foolishly sold to a forum member and because I want another, I have looked at this gun and IMHO, it looks stupid with an add-on rail.

another issue with putting a rail on a 4506....no duty holsters, if that is the intended purpose.

I am sure someone could make one out of kydex, but it will likely lack the current wave of retention features on the name brand holsters right now.

As much of a following as the 4506 has, I think it would be profitable for S&W to produce a 4506 with an integrated rail. Even if they only made it as a limited run or as a Performance Center gun, I would still buy it.
