S&W Bodyguard .380 price drop!
S&W has dropped the MSRP of their BG .380 from 549.00 to 399.00 last week. I've seen them advertised for $349.99.
It's a good deal for those who haven't purchased one yet but both my son and myself just bought one right before the drop.
Needless to say, I'm not a happy camper at the moment! I waited for weeks until my local shop got one in then the price is dropped $150.00 right after I buy it. Even with the discount my shop gave me I paid over 100.00 too much!

It probably has something to do with the issues it has had and that they're sitting on the shelves, not moving.

Price drop
It never hurts to go back and see what your dealer would do. You are no worse off if he does nothing, but if he gives you some cash back you are ahead. Give it a try and god luck.

This is because of the multiple issues they are having with this gun.I have 5 friends who bought them and all 5 have had problems sending them back. That kind of track record had me stay far away from it when I bought a 380.Maybe the bugs are cured and they won't move....Mike

I have heard from two sources, both large dealers, that S&W is dropping prices because business has dropped off so much. The salad days fueled by the 08 election are over, expect to see more price cuts, including on revolvers. I have been working with an accessory dealer at gun shows and he is also downsizing due to soft demand.

S&W has dropped their price on the entire M&P line of Semi Autos by $50 also. Both the Bodyguard 380 and 38 have had the price drop. I don't think this has anything to do with previous teething problems the 380 experienced. My dealer still has a waiting list for these and everytime he gets a shipment they are either spoken for or sell immediately. I think this is because of the economy. They are also dropping their rebates and replacing same with the price reductions. I paid $391 for my BG380 with the LEO discount, that is now $303 which is a huge discount. For that price I'm buying a couple for stocking stuffers.

It has nothing to do with issues, they are slowing down and are trying to generate more business. I was chatting with my friend that is an engineer there and he was saying they have been slower then they like.

Prices on new guns always come down folks. It's marketing. Everyone knows and there is a balance between wanting new, different, exciting and getting old boring and known.

Who generally waits for a good sale, then sees it for less a month later - Ruger LCP last time.

I already spoke with him. he wasn't aware of the price drop until I showed him an ad for it listed at 349.99 that I had printed.
He can't do anything because his purchase price on the ones he sold me and my son was higher than the 349.99 that was posted in the ad. I fired off an e-mail to S&W cust. serv. but I have yet to hear back from them. It will surprise me if they even respond.

I doubt you will even get a response from customer service. I sent them an e-mail to ask about sending mine back for service. And that was 2 months ago and still have not had a response back from them. I am glad I called or I would still have been waiting. It would have been nice to save the $150 on buying mine, especially for being a "beta tester" for their so called proven product. Heck, I am still waiting for my transfer fee to be refunded back to me after my frame replacement. I guess after getting kicked in the balls like this from S&W, I will definitely remember this next time I am in the market for a new firearm. I was in the market for a M4 style .22 rifle, but won't even look at a M&P 15-22 now!!

I recieved an e-mail back yesterday. They offered me 2 mags to keep me happy. Not 2 mags each for my son and I but 2 mags total. Between my son and I we are still out over $150.00 but I went ahead and took the offer. I figured it's better than nothing. I was looking at the M&P .45 compact but now I'm having second thoughts.

Glad I've held out. Now just have to wait for the local shops to get rid of their old stock and get in the new lower price ones.....they're still pricing them for 469.00 and up.....

Just have to hope some "newbies" walk in and aren't aware that S&W lowered the price on the .380's.

OUCH! I bought mine in mid August, not long after they were released. It listed for $575. I paid $509. Had lots of trouble with the locking pin. Finally got a new frame 8 weeks later after two returns. A heartache maybe, but I'm glad I bought it. It's a great gun and easy to carry.

No they're not.
This happens with every new product to those who have to have the latest and greatest. Video games, new car models (PT Cruiser, for instance), the latest cellphone, etc. The cost always drops for those who are willing to wait awhile. Add in the supply and demand factors, and prices generally go down the longer a product is on the market.

Excellent point, you have to pay to have the 'latest and greatest.' I think the problem is, that with guns, there are fewer real "new" product introductions, so you don't see it as much. I've had it happen to me a couple of times, and just chalk it up to wanting what I wanted, when I wanted it...
Hey, it could be worse, you could be driving a PT Cruiser, that you paid MSRP!

I would not blame the S&W dealers. They were as much a victim as their customers who recently bought a BG-380. The day after the new MSRP appeared on the S&W website, I printed the new price and visited two S&W dealers. They were completely unaware. As surprised as I was and more then a little disturbed.

Sales were down 10.5 % in the second quarter. That's probably the reason.

Good news! Their price drop is across all lines and is pretty significant...I may need to get rid of some unused sporting goods and pick up a BG 380 now that the full release version seems to be out. Might need a 22A, too, and possibly an SD40...

I'm not mean enough to tell you what mine cost me with my employee discount. If the weather holds out this weekend I may get to shoot it.

So I have been putting a little money into my gun fun-d and was seriously contemplating heading over to the local shop this weekend and picking up an LCP(without CT Laser) when I stumbled across the Bodyguard 380 while finishing my research. The Current MSRP of $399 is sweet, advertised at $346 on galleryofguns.com. Love the dovetail sights(would love some 3 dots), the lock back on empty, and the integrated laser. However, I am unable to find one for sale (listed as "allocated"). UPDATE - Found a local dealer with over 15 in stock, offered at $400. I may just wait for the local gun show in a few weeks.
BTW, just purchased my 1st Smith and Wesson a few weeks ago, the 686Plus 4" and I've already put about 500 rounds through it. Love the craftsmanship and quality, not to mention the feel.

Just got back from the Cedar Rapids gunshow where I bought a BG380, new in the box, for $339.00 ($362.73 after sales tax). The dealer had a sign advertising that price on the end of his table. Don't know how many he has left.
But I do have a question. Does anyone know whether you can tell by the serial number whether it is "new stock" or "old stock"? I suppose old stock would be selling at the old price?

Try calling ALL the local gunshops in your area, or look online at S&W for their "top Gun Dealers". I couldn't find any online anywhere yesterday, but i made 1 phone call this afternoon (was planning on calling every shop in a 30 mile radius(atleast 8-10 not including pawnshops). They were listed as a "top gun dealer"(smith and wesson company designation) and they happily informed me they have 17 in stock. Hope it helps, but sometimes have to do things the old fashion way.

My son and I just purchased 2 s@w Bodyguard 380s at Buds Police Supply in Lexington Kentucky (not the Buds in Paris) with LEO discount for $289 each. They have a serial # EAF. We got 1 hour free range time and put about 100 rounds each though them and both were flawlwss.

You can tell by the test fire date too a test fire date after the price drop should give a good idea its new stock I was at a gun show today and all the lower priced 380 BG had a mid December test fire date I already have the BG 38 spec and was looking to get the 380 also so I picked one up at the gun show today since the price drop and my test fire date was 12/13/10. Their were other dealers with more expensive prices and im sure they were old stock since im sure they couldnt compete bc they too were in for to much to sell it at the new lower prices

They sold out of these at our local gun shop - a dozen out the door. They are waiting on 6 more but didn't have a time when they would get in...

Early buyers' penalty
I've had my BG since Sept.. Best gun I have by far. I can and can't say I wish I'd waited because I've been using it (EAA SN) since then and it has been flawless in all areas after over 400 rnds at the range. What I wanted to say to all others that paid the higher price...It's the early bird that gets the worm, but it's the second mouse that gets the cheese.

Just picked mine up this past weekend, and found an excellent well stocked shop in my area I didn't even know existed. EAH serial#, $375. Hard to find in my neck of the coast. Went to a gunshow a week ago and only one dealer had one BG380 and he wanted $500+, but that is supply and demand. He ended up selling it too.

Purchased my serial EAH 2/10/11 at Bob's Guns in Norfolk, VA for $368, and they include a $100 range punch card. So for me thats a $268.
Not to hijack this thread, but after test firing 50 through one of their range rental LCPs, I found the BG380 thanks to one of the great counter people. What a HUGE difference in feel. SO much nicer.

I am still looking for an opportunity to purchase the BD 380. I was very pleased when I contacted S & W, they were very candid and honest about their price drop. The best I've seen is $270 + $20 S/H =$290 shipped to a FFD for another $20-50., Total $310 - $340. MSRP $399. They appear to be on back-order. Where, when, and can I get one sent to me for under $350 total? Thanks, Jerry

S&W has done this before. I bought my Model 41 in 1959 for $110, big bucks back then, especially for a 2d Lt like I was. In a few months they dropped the price to $100 because they were selling so well. I wasn't happy.
