Hey!

I own three S&W 1911s...they are great pistols. I've had 1911s from just about every other production maker, and the S&W are the best, IMO.

If I ever decide to get a 1911 it would be a S&W. At any rate you have a nice new gun there, I hope it shoots as well as it looks.

I hope so too. Should be coming into my FFL this week, accompanied with 4 Wilson Combat Mags, and original docs. Original owners stated he had only put two boxes of ammo through it. And for just a shade over 7 bills shipped, I don't think I did too bad.

Love it! I've never really been in to plastic handguns and have always loved the 1911.

You will like that SW 1911, they shoot very very good, the slide and frame fit is really good that I have seen on all the ones around and both of mine.
I have over 60K through mine and its just as tight as the day I bought it, and still holds a tight group at 50ft.
S&W really did their home work before they released them out to public.

What's with the trigger on that model? Is that the same trigger that is on a PC model?

I have no idea about the trigger, the triangular shaped holes do look like the same design as on the PC models. The 108282, ES, and pro-series I have seen typically have 3 round holes. Maybe someone else can shed some additional light on the subject, as I am not aware of trigger variations between models.

Still wondering when the cookies arrive....

Just got back from taking the 1911 out for it's first range trip. It helped assuage the guilt of selling my S&W 4566TSW to fund this. It functioned very well, and although I am not used to the blank sights, I thought it shot very accurate. Fired 78 rounds through in 10 mags, had 2 FTF (failures-to-feed), shooting Remington UMC 230gr FMJ. The first FTF was on about the 4th mag, inserted mag, and hit slide release and round jammed, the second was on the 10th mag after the first shot the 2nd round jammed. Other than that it fed and ejected well.

Was shooting from 10 yards, and thought I did ok for a fairly amateur shooter.
This is the 3rd mag.

This is the 8th I believe.

This is the 10th at a faster rate of fire (only 7 rounds as I had the FTF)

My Dad who has never shot a 45 or 1911 before tried to show me up.

I did notice that on all the shells I was getting a flat strike mark on the outer edge of the rim, sorry this was the best pic I could get. You might be able to see the strike mark near my index finger, not sure if this is an issue that needs to be addressed.

After another field-strip and cleaning I found what is causing the strike mark on the outer-edge of the shell rim. Appears that a part of the breech-face wasn't completely machined flat. The edge directly away from the ejector has a slight lip. Given the location, I doubt I can get a good picture. Is this anything I should be concerned about?

Well just figured I post an update. I called S&W on 11/16/10 and spoke to them about the unmilled section of breech face. They shipped me a pre-paid Fedex label, received label in the mail on 11/18/10. Finally got around to getting to a ship center on 11/23/10, they received it the end of day on 11/24/10. Since it was Thanksgiving week, they didn't get to it until 11/29/10. Received the confirmation of receipt letter from the 12/01/10, stating "allow 2 to 3 weeks." Called today to check on status, and was told it was sent to the mail room on 12/07/10 for shipment, and I should receive it today 12/10/10. Very eager to get it back. Although I don't think I'll be using it for awhile, since winter has set in here in Maine, and woke up to this morning to single digit temps. No snow on the ground at home here in southern Maine, but when they say highs in the 20's it is too dang cold for me to venture out shooting.

Received my 1911 back from S&W yesterday. Their highly detailed description of service performed "slide modification." Appears that they ground down the ridge on the breech face, can still see a slight line, but cannot detect any raised portion. Hoping to be able to get out and try again before the snow flies.

I have a blued fixed sight government model 1911 from Smith. It shoots more accurately for me at distances up to 25 yards than any other handgun that I own. I say this with a wee bit o'reluctance because I've always been and remain a revolver guy, I have a safe full of them, and this Smith was my first semiauto. The gun is almost boringly accurate. I've had it for about two years, have put at least 2000 rounds through it, and have not experienced one jam, not one failure to feed, not one failure to eject. Bottom line, it is a superb handgun.

On some of the other forums that I belong to I constantly see threads in which people talk about their ideal 1911 or debate the merits of custom made or nearly custom made guns costing upwards -- sometimes way upwards -- of $2500. I paid 800 bucks and loose change for my Smith and I can't conceive of an innovation or change in equipment that would make this gun shoot more accurately, operate more consistently, or be more comfortable to shoot. And, it's damn pretty, too!
