I just got a used 1911 Sc in where when I pull the trigger with the back strap safety not pressed the hammer fall down.
Now I am not too good with 1911 mechanics/prices and wonder how much I am looking in parts and what I have to replace to get this right.

I would send it to to S&W and have them make it right. It has a lifetime warranty. Make sure that you tell them that you have a safety issue. They will issue a call tag to have it sent in. Smith will make it right and safe for you.

I just sent my S&W 1911 in and had it back in less than 2 weeks from the date they received it to work on. They got it to work on, on a Monday, I had it back in my hands the following Wednesday. I shipped mine from Augusta, ME on 11/23/10 they received it at the end of the day on 11/24/10. They were out on Thanksgiving and the day after. Had it to work on: 11/29/10, and FedEx delivered it back to my house on 12/8/10.

I send a 686 SSR in (not warranty) and it took them 4 weeks to tell me how much it was and 10 weeks to fix it!
Maybe they do warranty work first??
Is lifetime warranty not restricted to the first owner?

I am the second owner of my 1911, and they prepaid shipping and fixed some machining that wasn't complete on the breech face for free. Where it is a safety issue, I bet they would take care of it the same way.

I fit a wilson combat grip safety into mine, but it's not a perfect fit where the tag inside is. It still needs to be welded. Only S&W has the grip safeties and they won't sell them.

S&W has warrantied several police trade in 4006's for me and I was certainly NOT the original owner. They were out and back in less than 9 days. Don't know where the 3 months comes in.
You have a safety problem on your hands...let Smith take care of it. I have NEVER regretted sending anything to S&W and have have incredible turnaround times.

I have never heard of S&W charging anyone for repair work unless the damage was due to abuse or misuse. They have always been most helpful in the cases that friends of mine had and they have sent me parts I needed for guns that I bought both new and used.

Also a neighbor sent his model 66 back (bought from a pawn shop) for repairs. It was back in his hands in less than two weeks.

Just curious, have you had the gun apart? Disabling the grip safety is not an uncommon practice in certain shooting circles. I bought a heavily tricked out Colt gold Cup NM in that condition some time back.
Might be an easier fix than you thought.

I wouldn't bet on the grip safety simply "dropping in" and then working properly.

My experience with grip safeties (and most other parts) on various brands of 1911s (though admittedly not S&W) is that they might or might not just drop in. Welcome to the wonderful world of the 1911s, where everything but (maybe) lubrication needs to be fitted to work right.

I'd send it to S&W, or if not, get a competent 1911 smith to fix it.

+1. Kitchen table do it youself jobs on the 1911 safeties are not a good idea unless you know what your doing.

Send it back and be patient. That way you know it will be done right.

The 686 went back because of the owner did a "trigger job" he then claimed was done by the PC.
S&W however had no record of the gun ever coming back.
I did not expect S&W to pay for that.

Anyway, took the gun apart and looked at it.
The interesting thing is, that the gun was fired a few rounds and then not cleaned when it arrived here.
However the trigger parts were recently cleaned and lubed.
Anyway, I will send the gun back to the owner.
