Helped a friend

A friend needed to sell a Lady Smith 9mm. It's had 50 fired through it. Has the purple bag, spare mag and manual.

He said he'd take $400 for it. I gave him five.

What have a I got and how did I do?

OK, Thanks for the info. I was pretty sure that would be a premium price, but that wasn't the point.

Iggy; I'd say probably closer to fair for both of you. Generally speaking I think many of us would say the price you paid is slightly on the high side, but these are desirable and popular pistols which has pushed their prices up. Like everything else, the gun is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. In very good condition, with original case, paperwork and two original mags my guess is it would have fetched at least that $500 on an auction site, possibly (probably) more than that.

If it is a LadySmith 3913 with the grey grips, $500 sound about right if it is in excellent shape. There is one on GB right now pretty much NIB with the purple bag you mentioned asking $750.

You got perhaps the finest, most reliable, easily concealed single stack 9mm CCW piece ever made, for a fair price.

I'm with novalty on this. Given the condition you described,50 rounds!, I'd say you both did well. You just happen to have done better, because you had an opportunity to help a friend and managed to come up with one of the best of the 3Gs out there.

If you don't have a use for it, just put it on the shelf for a while. When the time comes you'll cover your investment. More importantly, you stepped up to help when it was needed.

I've got to watch it. When the guy asked me if I was interested, my wife was sitting there too. He's an old family friend.

I glanced over at her and she nodded in the affirmative. She packed a model 59 for a while when she was a Deputy Sheriff.

Now I've got to worry that she's gonna poach the thing before I even get to do anything with it.

You need to put your foot down, let her know the gun is her's and the carry bag is yours.
