6904
I just got back from a pawn shop and feel like bragging. They had a 6904 on the shelf that came with 3 magazines. I was able to get it for $300, +tax. I've taken it apart for cleaning and it looks pretty good. The outside has a little holster wear, but inside looks like new. I was real impressed with the weight and balance of this gun. I'm looking forward to getting out with this one and see how it does on the range.
No pics right now, but I'm a happy new 3rd gen. S&W owner.
Also, when was this gun made? The serial number is TCS08xx.
Thanks.

That is an excellent deal, especially with 3 mags. I am sure you will like the gun because it is a great size.

My reading of the SCS&W 3rd indicates 1989 for a ship date. I've always been interested in 6904's and would love to hear a range report - and pictures would also be appreciated.

I got it out to the range today. I had Fed. 124gr. FMJ and Golden Bear 115gr. FMJ, in steel cases. It fed, and ejected perfectly with all 3 magazines. It does seem to like the 115gr. a little better then the 124, but that could just be those brands.
My accuracy was good at 7 and 10 yards. I was at a public range and could shoot at closer lines when I had the place to myself. When others started arriving I had to go back to the tables, which were at 25yds. My groups opened up then. I didn't really expect this to be a range gun though and I wasn't disappointed.
My only concern was that the pin holding the trigger in started walking out after about 75 rds. I think I have some Locktite around here somewhere. I'm going to have to find it.
All in all, it performed flawlessly, easy recoil, good sights, all 3 mags worked equally well, no hiccups with brass or steel ammo. Pretty cool, if you ask me!

Good to hear it performed as it did for you. I would expect nothing less from a S&W 3rd gen pistol.

You shouldn't need to loctite the pin in. There's a plunger (#88) that should catch in the groove in the trigger pin (#91) and keep it from walking out.

6904
Well I went to my local gun shop and bought a 6904 today. I paid $399 plus taxes and fees for a gun that appears to be essentially like new. Two mags, but I have about 6 more that will fit it.
That's my topic for the forum. I can either use the standard 12 rounder with the curvy baseplate, the 15 round with the butt plate extension on it, or the 12 rounder with a 15 round baseplate, which I think is my favorite.
Which of the three do you guys like best?
I think of it as my Smith and Wesson version of a Glock 19. I had another 6904 before (very rough shape) that I traded away. Think I'll keep this one.

SNW19_357,
How did you highlight the parts yellow and post it.
What software did you use?
Thanks,
