Used pistol service
Hello everyone. I'm looking at maybe buying a used 3913, 3914 or 6906. I'm wondering if perhaps anyone knows if S&W provides a used pistol refurbishing service similar to the kind that Sig offers. Replace springs and worn parts and what not. If S&W does offer this type of service, how much does it typically cost and will they'll want me to pay shipping both ways? I tried sending an email to S&W, but I just got an automated response saying that they're closed until after new year's. It's a bummer that S&W stopped making their 3rd Gen. pistols.

I am sure they will do it but I think you may be jumping the gun a bit. Most guns will go thousands of rounds without any issues. The guns you listed are all very fine and durable guns. I have a 3914TSW that has thousands of rounds through it and it still looks new on the inside and outside.
BTW the 3913 and 3914 are outstanding carry guns. They have excellent sights and are very light, concealable, reliable and accurate.

If you are not the original purchaser I would bet that you will be on the hook for shipping both ways and any needed replacement parts. But as a referance point, my 6904 has an untold total number of rounds through it as it was a LEO sell off. Most likely it was carried a lot and shot only for qualifications. It has "Lots" of holster wear but looked almost NNIB on the inside when I got it from SOG a few years ago. The only thing I did after I got it was replace the recoil sping, magazine springs and give it a good bath. I used it as a loaner gun during the time I was teaching the TN HCP course. My students put several thousand rounds through it and I personally have put close to 5000 rounds through it since I bought it. It has had zero FTE and zero FTF. The recoil spring gets replaced about every 2500 rounds even if it is showing no sign of spring fatigue. Other than replacing the recoil and magazine springs, since you don't know the round count through your pistol if used, I would bet that you should have no problems with your pistol. With the above listed spring change and a good cleaning before you fire it I would bet yours should be good-to-go for a LONG time.

Usually the only parts I change on a used S&W is to replace the recoil spring if I'm unsure of the round count. Wolff springs sells a complete spring kit for around $25 if you're really concerned. Other than the mag spring the only other ones I've replaced were hammer/trigger springs with the lighter rated ones to lighten the trigger pull, not because they were needed.

T800, do it yourself. If you can disassemble your gun for cleaning then you can change out most of the parts that normally get replaced (recoil, main, mag springs). You can get the parts directly from S&W. They have a parts list online so you can get all the numbers yourself and see what they cost before calling in your order. Shipping for small parts orders is generally around $6.00. You can clean up an old pistol with new grips and mag followers and floor plates also available from S&W. Brownells is also selling S&W parts, but I find that they are out of stock on a lot of things. I buy a lot of the LE trade-ins and clean up the outsides and insides by changing out these parts. Here is a link to the S&W parts list page:
