Default S&W 745 IPSC NEED HELP PLEASE

I have my eye on a 745 10th anniversary in the original box and papers in 97+%.

Here is where I need help... I know nothing of this auto, all my knowledge is in K and N frame revolvers. Is this a great weapon of choice or does it have negative feed back since it is discontinued? I can pick it up for $ 500.00 private sell. Is this fair? Also will it have any collector demands in the future? Last question.. Does anyone have the production run count of this model and how many years they were offered from factory?

Any help will be great

Thanks,

I owned a regular 745 for a long time. Finally gave it to my daughter since she liked shooting it so well. That was probably a mistake. Anyway, they are very good guns. Trigger is probably not as good as a 1911, but better than any of the DA/SA guns. Good accuracy. In real good shape with all the original accessories, $500 is probably a fair price. Wouldn't count on it becoming "collectable" in the future.

$500 is a fair and more realistic price than the ones I have seen listed on auction sites.

2500 were produced, it should have a serial number denoting what number it is.

There were actually 5,000 "DVC" prefixed guns made, and I'd guess at least that many non-marked guns. The later models had a LPA style adjustable rear sight. I see the "DVC" guns going slightly higher than the unmarked ones but $500 is a good price for either. The trigger is adjustable for both pre and overtravel and I always thought they were better than a 1911 trigger myself. If you look down through this section you'll see quite a few threads on the 745.

Thank you for all the helpful information, I would of thought with only 2500 produced they would hold a collector premium. I hope my sale goes through so I can shoot a 745 for the first time.

I had also heard that 5000 were produced, serial number DVC0001-DVC5000. I had one that had a serial number of DVC5092 so I don't think anybody knows how many were produced!
