I inherited a 1969 model 41 with 7 3/8" barrel w/compensator.
It did not have the rear sights but my dad found them buried in a junk drawer and gave them to me.

I basically wanted to sight the gun in and just make sure it functioned okay. I had one misfire where the primer was dented. The second time it went off. The other 49 shells went just fine.

I have a Ruger Mark 1 that I like to shoot, but this Model 41 is far superior. Unbelievable. I had it sighted in within 15 rounds and then I was shooting old shotgun cases off a bench 30 feet away with iron sights. My last shot picked off a fallen shotgun cartridge facing me with the primer, so what is that, about the size of a quarter? I hit it square. That left me in awe of what this pistol can do, even if it was luck....

Wonderful trigger, wonderful sights. Now I'm not sure if I'll get a red dot for it or not. Maybe just some more precise iron sights. I wonder if someone makes something like olympic micrometer sights for a pistol?

I bought my 41 to replace a Ruger when I was getting into bullseye shooting. I found it to be very fussy with ammo. I was fortunate to have a Ransom Rest at our range to play with different ammo but found it liked CCI Standard velocity the best. It would hold about a 1.25" group at 50 yards with those. Contrast that to something like Federal High Vel the groups would open up to 4-5". Pretty dramatic.

1.5" at 50 yards is amazing for a handgun.... I can't shoot that good, but I like trying!!

Your barrel has to have drilled & tapped holes to mount the sight.

I would not recommend drilling and tapping the original 7 3/8" barrel. Doing so will completely ruin its originality and value. Get a new or used barrel that is already tapped for a mount and put the red dot on it. Barrels are quick and easy to change on the Model 41 and you’ll enjoy having the ability to switch between the two different barrel/sight set-ups for different situations.

My barrel is tapped. It has three holes in it, kind of a goofy configuration.

So this isn't stock?

My 2010 barrel came with 4 tapped holes You should be able to see the heads of the screws in the pic below. The adaptor is a Weigand. (173094)




This is a Weaver adaptor it cost much less than the Wiegand. Maybe I should have turned it over for the Pic?

The 7 3/8" barrel was the original barrel design and was made from 1958-1978. They were not factory drilled and tapped. Since yours has been D&T it sounds like you just need to find a mount that will work with the hole pattern.

Yes, I know from my serial number it is a 1969 model. The holes are goofy though, and the rail goes over the rear sight necessitating its removal if I want the rail. That's why my dad had the rear sight off. Thank God he found it in a junk drawer! Although when I asked if anyone could direct me to a rear sight there were several angels on this site that had them and were willing to part with them for a reasonable price.
