Need some info on a 6946. (PICS added)
What can you tell me about the S&W 6946? I have my eyes on one and I think I can get it at a fair price. Are they decent/junk, etc? Id like to hear all you can tell me.....
Thanks to all in advance!
Brian

Excellent pistol, like every other 3rd gen Smith. I carry one pretty much every day.
The DAO triggers on the 3rd gens seem to range between really nice, and not as much so. I have one of each. At the worst, they need a bit of adjusting to, at best, you can pick the gun up with no experience with one and shoot it very well.
So I guess I'm suggesting, if you can shoot it first, that would be good IMHO.

I have one and it does have a very good trigger. I also have a 6906 which is the double/single action with the decocker/safety levers. The 6946 is the best for carry with the slimer profile. You can't go wrong if it is a good price. I wouldn't want to part with mine.

Hi BrianE, I've been looking for one of these myself, and I live in the Springfield area. If you decide not to get it, could you let me know where it is? I'd be intersted in checking it out. Thanks!

The 3rd generation DAOs' were made to mimic their DA revolvers. As long as you liked shooting them you should like the 6946. You can lighten the trigger pull with a 17-18# hammer spring.

I got mine from a LGS in Richmond VA for $311 OTD. They were sheriff's dept trade-ins, so it was probably not as nice as what you are looking at. I would suggest somewhere between $380-$425 would be a fair price.

$350 seems to be the recent price to sell one on GB. The original box will get you $400.

I just bought one in excellent condition about a month ago in the original box with two mags for $400 shipped. Only thing I've done is replace the hammer spring with a 17# Wolff spring. Nice smooth trigger and no problems with any ammo.

I love my 6946. It is plenty accurate and has always worked perfectly. It feeds any ammo I stuff in the magazine and it carries quite well. I picked up both an IWB and an OWB holster from Side Guard Holsters for it. Nice gun.

I carried this pistol on duty for a couple of years. It always shot great and never jammed. I have missed the pistol so much that I recently got an old brand new one on GB for $400.00. For some reason this one has a creaky/ trigger the first 1/8 of an inch. It's strange and even audible. Once I get passed the first little bit of take up it's trigger is nice and smooth. I haven't fired it yet just a lot of dry firing. Any one have a remedy for this? I asked a few weeks ago on here and no one said anything except one guy that agreed. My opinion great buy good size carry gun.

Brought it home today...
I went to my LGS today and picked me up that 6946. It came with 2 12rd magazines and in excellent condition (Ill get pics when I find my camera). It was a police trade in that looks to have been shot/carried a few times, but didnt come with any papers or box. I brought a friend up with me and he picked up the other one as he had 2 for sale (which he just got one this week). Will S&W send me an instruction booklet upon request, so I know how to take it down, etc?
Thanks! - Brian
