Default questions- 4013TSW

This gun was made in Sept 1997. No light rail, says "Tactical" in big letters on the left side of the slide.

1) Is the bobbed hammer a MIM part? I would like to replace it with a spurred hammer, what would be the part#?

2) Is there an easy way to remove the "Tactical" banner on the slide without messing up the dull stainless (beadblasted?) finish?

Thanks for your time.

OK,, I checked my thread Spured hammer on 4013tsw? and unfortunately it doesnt have what your asking for.

BUT, I can take a guess at number one. I would say No, its not a MIM part. Mim parts have a flash seam. If you look at the spurred hammers that have the hole in them, look at the spurring part of it and you can see the mold seam. The bobbed hammer doesnt have the mold seam.

question 2. Um no. But I have heard that you can send it back to S&W to have them re-bead blasted. Perhaps you could include instruction to NOT have that put back on it. But honestly, put it in a holster and no one, even you, will see it.

You can replace the hammer with a spurred one from a 4000/5900 series gun. Blasting the slide will lighten the laser etching but won't remove it.

That's nice to know! I recently purchased a NOS 4013TSW, from '97, and was wondering how well the lettering was put on and would it come off easy. Guess it's on there pretty darn good! Thanks.

I'll look for a hammer, thanks.

I'll also paint over the Tactical with some tactical green Sears Weatherbeater latex outdoor paint. I really hate the lettering.

I bought a spurred hammer for my 3913 and as handgunner356 said, the 4000/5900 series spurred hammer will work, it fits multiple models. But you will need to swap the hammer spur.

You can get the hammer from Midway USA:
Smith & Wesson Hammer Assembly Spurred S&W 4003TSW, 4006TSW, 4563TSW, 4566TSW, 5903TSW, 5906TSW, 1006, 1066, 3904, 3906, 539, 4505, 4506, 4566, 4596, 559, 5903, 5903SSV, 5904, 5906, 5967, 909, 910, - MidwayUSA
Out of stock but they say - Date expected in stock: 1/25/2011

I felt exactly the way you do before I bought a S&W Tactical, too much advertising. Now I don't see what all the fuss was about, in fact I think the laser etched "40 Tactical" looks good, it's not done in bold so it gives an "upscale" look to the TSW line. I'd suggest giving it some time to grow on you before you go through the hassle of removing it, it did on me.

IDK, I operate both a suite up and step inside and a cabinet style bead blaster and I can remove just about anything from stainless or carbon steel... The thin etching on the slide wont stand a chance.

I agree with Punisher, laser etching won't stand heavy polishing with Mother's, much less media blasting.
