Question about S&W 22-4 Thunder Ranch
The .45 acp not the 21-4 in .44 spl. Anybody have any idea how many have been made and about how much they are worth? Thanks a lot in advance. All I have been able to find is that they shoot low, (and they do) and that they are now preformance center guns.

Don't know how many they made but mine does not shoot low. Dead on with 230gr ammo. Mine did not indicate it was a performance center gun but the action sure feels like it.

I'm using 230 Gr. and get a good group at 6 o'clock 3 or 4 inches low at 22 feet. So far every body thats shot it has been low.

No idea how many were made, mine shoots dead on with 230 grain ball. In fact it is one of the most accurate handguns I own, and that includes my four .44 specials.

Here is one of the Thunder ranch models. No problem with low point of impact.

My 22-4 is plenty accurate with 230 grn ammo, but the most accurate load is 45 GAP by Speer, 200 grn I can't find an ACP round that shoots with them

It sounds like you need to look into putting a Wondersight on your 22-4. It should give you plenty of elevation.

Mine shoots dead on with 230 grain ammo. 250 grain handloads shoot about an inch high at 25 yards, 200 grain handloads about 2 inches low. Very accurate gun. You can alter the front sight height to match your loads by getting a replacement front blade from Brownells or others. It requires drilling in place, so it is not a job for the inexperienced. Gunsmith probably best for those without some KSAs.

Model 22-4
First of all these guns are NOT rare if that's your question. There were a good many produced in the mid 2000s. The original batch was built with a front sight that was too high. S&W acknowledged this and retrofitted the guns with a correct sight. All you need to do is call the factory and ask if they're still doing this.
If you had a NIB specimen with all papers, soft case and locks, that gun would be worth about $650.

My 22-4 is the trial ballon Thunder Ranch model. Didn't know it had the lock on it until I ordered it, or I wouldn't have it. I shoot auto-rim in mine. Not that crazy about it. Hey, I thought this was the automatic page?

My 22-4 shot a foot low, and six inches right, at 25 yards. A bit of filing, and it's dead on. The Wondersight does not fit. The frame of lock guns is contoured a bit differently than older frames.

Keep it up, keep it up. I have always liked bigbore N frames, and I have two boxes of auto rim brass someplace.
Serves me right for never getting a 1917 back in the days when they were all over the place for $29.95. DUMB!
