Default S&W 908 ??

I have never owned a S&W semi-auto pistol. I have always had 1911s or Glocks. Currenty have two G19s in the family.

My question is regarding a S&W 908, for use as a CC pistol. Are they reasonably accurate out to 15-20 yards; reliable; well made; durable? Is there any particular thing I should look for in purchasing a used 908?
Thanks

Default My Hybrid....

Here's a 908S frame with the longer 910S slide & barrel.

I've been carrying it everyday for the past year or more.

The former owner "Shortranger" is a Forum Member of old and when he put this togeather, Shorty made some nice improvements such as Hogue's and Night Sights. I haven't changed a thing.

The gun is 100% with whatever I've put through it and with Speer 124 Grn. +P+ "Gold Dots" it will keep an entire magazine in the 9-ring at 15 yards as fast as I can pull the trigger.

The 908 is a nice pistol and quite reliable. Despite the size and factory grips, it is comfortable to shoot. Of course, the double action/single action trigger set up takes some adjustment on the shooter's part (compared to the Glock), but that's rather easy to do.

Your Glock holsters may fit.

The only hangup on mine is a couple rust spots on the slide due to neglect by a previous owner. I very carefully gave the trouble spot a once over with oil and a bronze brush and I keep the slide lightly oiled and it hasn't gotten any worse. Reliability wise, it doesn't get much better than my 908.

I love my 908. It carries and shoots great and is very accurate. The only thing I have done to mine is add a strip of skateboard tape to the front strap of the grip.

I got an excellent deal in mine before lots of people caught on to the 3rd generation Smiths. I don't believe you can go wrong with a 908.

I second RRH. I to purchase a 908 off GB at a great price and have not had any problem for the past year and 500 rounds.

Default Basic Black

I like my 908 big time. Its nice and thin and carries easily...feels great in my hand...accurate too. A few days ago I put some Trijicon Night Sights on it and I like it even better now. If I'm not carrying a revolver, I'm carrying this one.

I carried a 908 for a while. They are extremely reliable and thin, but the finish leaves a bit to be desired. I ended up with rust on the slide after going jogging a few times.

If you have the choice, think about getting a 908S (stainless) instead of the blued 908.

This my third. I foolishly sold the other two-not again. I use it as a CCW in my rotation.
