659 with 5906 slide
Will a 5906 slide fit a 659? I picked the 659 up a few days ago and all though the gun shoots just fine the adjustable rear sight is blown out the windage adjustment only moves when pried on with a small flat blade screw driver, the adjustment screw just spins in the sight. The elevation adjustment still works... kinda. Since I know the sights are not really replaceable as I've read the front sight has to be ground down and a dovetail installed.. Is it possible to just replace the slide with a 5906 or similar so i can get some diff sights?

5906 Slide interchange
It probably will not work. However, you could try it. Just make sure
that if you buy it, that the seller knows it must fit and return your funds.
I had a 5906 with adjustable sights and I worked with a forum member to see if his fixed sight slide would fit my gun. He sent me his slide,
but it would not fit perhaps a gun smith could have fitted it to my
frame so I sent the slide back and paid postage both ways.
My 5906 was atypical in performance. Many here have excellent 5906 guns. Mine is now on consignment.
By the way my gun was bought new in the box.

If your gun has the original "winged" sight it uses a S&W revolver sight blade and screw. You can buy a new blade/screw kit and replace your old one a lot easier than the slide. It would also be about the same to send your slide off to someone like Novaks and have the sights replaced, then you know the slide/frame fit is correct.

Thank you both for your responses esp. the one on the revolver blade as it does have the winged sight. knowing this ill prolly look into one of those first before thinking about getting the sights redone down the road. The gun shoots great but the sight issues a bit of a pain. Get that fixed and this gun and I have a long future!

I've tried this already and it won't work. I have sweet 659 and a 5906 and recently for ****s and giggles, I tried to swap them out. Wouldn't work. You can find parts for the sight at Numrich or Midway or some of the other usual suspects on the web.

If you go to you tube and do a search for S&W 3rd gen firing pin dis-assembly (or words to that effect), you will get videos that will show you how to do it. The second gens dis-assemble the same way, for the most part. All you will need is a small punch, a phillips head or correct size hex head bit and safety glasses. It really is a simple procedure.
