Model 61
New on forum but a real S$W fan... Have m&p 9,and.45, so today picked up an unusual semi. It's a model 61 in.22 . Don't know if I paid too much at $210 but it's clean with 1 mag. Anybody got details?

I had one. It was A JAMOMATIC. Never could get it to fire one whole mag without something not working. It has collector value though if in good shape and the price is not bad, just do not plan to shoot it.......

Thanks for the reply. Checked you tube guy last night and he had the jam problem until he used mini mags. Don't plan to shoot it but for $210 maybe it's worth collecting.

I have a 61-2 with the box, papers, cleaning rod and zipper pouch. I have shot it a few times and have never had a feeding problem, but I know others who have.
According to S&W historian Roy Jinks the 61-3 was actually a good pistol. Of course, just as the figured that model out, they discontinued it. It was made from 1970-1973. I really like the way these pistols disassemble. Push the button just above the end of the barrel, remove the front site, then the spring connected to the button comes out and pull the slide off the front. It's pretty slick.
The same slide mechanism was later used on the Model 422, 622, 2214 and 2213 models. I have a 2214 and it seems to work pretty well, so some improvements were made between the two models.

Any idea of value? Bought an original box for it online to keep it a 1970 era keeper.

Welcome to the forum duffer. Your new 61 is worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. Also it never happened without Pics. Best of luck.

The little Escort was, I think, one of the original "Saturday Night Specials" that were so infamous back in the day. For a pocket pistol in a tiny caliber, it fills a niche, so to speak. I think if you look on the Completed auctions on the large gun selling site, you'll be able to determine a rough estimate of value for your little Model 61. I don't think you overpaid.

The reliability issue is a real shame as they're one of the better-looking mouseguns.
