Default Best 1006/10 series mag follower color

Been doing some research and searches and some have said the ones with the yellow followers are junk and some say they are good, while most have said the white ones are the best. Haven't seen any info re: black.

Any thoughts?

Never seen black.

White is preferable for some reason. But the yellow ones work.

Black followers are .45 ACP mags for the 45xx series.

Yellow was the original color and are the oldest. I have not had any issues with yellow. The white are the newer series. For the 10mm there is no other color.

I have both yellow and white for my 1006. I don't have problems with either but the replacement one's I bought are white. I am told the white one's are better but I have not had a problem with the yellow.

There were two types of yellow followers. The earliest had a 45 degree bevel at the bullet end. The second yellow follower did not have the bevel and looks just like the later white follower. Both of these followers are found in magazines that are stamped "ES" on the top front of the mag body about 3/4" below the follower.

The white followers are found in magazines that are stamped with "ES1"
Most, but not all, of the ES1 magazines have "Accu Guide TM" and "Patent Pending" on the bottom left of the mag body. The ES1 mags also have indentations that run along the sides just below the top of the feed lips. These look like a stiffening feature for the feed lips to me.

All the followers work fine and are interchangeable.

New ones purchased from S&W ($3.25 each) are white.

Earliest production guns had the yellow followers with the beveled front.
The yellow followers without the bevel came next.
The latest guns had the ES1 mags with the white followers.
I don't know the dates, if that info even exists, when one transitioned to the next.

What was original to a specific gun would depend upon it's manufacture date.
When was the gun in question produced? If it is very early or very late we might have an answer about followers.

I would also guess that your gun came with yellow followers.

The white followers in your "ES" mags are replacements. The followers are the thinks that wear in the mags, so replacements can be expected.

Default Best mags? All S&W 10s!

I've shot -- and currently own -- the full range of S&W 10mm mags -- from the yellow angled followers -- to ES and ES-1s -- as well as MS and MS-1s -- the later of which appear to have been overlooked up to this point.

I've never -- and I stress never -- had any of these mags EVER malfunction in a 1006.

One mag was a little touchy in a 1086 (although still functional and borderline reliable as it just didn't bump fully into battery on the final round) -- but worked fine in a 1006.

The problem there was the mag spring -- not the follower. Once replaced, the spring took care of the 1086 problem.

I consider the first mags just as reliable as the last generation.

All in all, I've probably fired 20,000 rounds of all descriptions through Smith 10s.

While I haven't fired as many rounds in my S&W 10mms as Outrider, what he describes about the 10XX-series followers and the differently-marked steel magazine bodies (ESs; ES-1s; MSs, et al) tracks my experience as well.

All my mags (regardless of the marking on the body) run white followers now, but I've still got some of the 1st Gen yellow ones and wouldn't think twice about using them.

I have 3 mags for my 1006, 1 ea of the 2 yellow styles, and one recently purchased new mag wit white follower. I can tell no difference in function with any of them.
