S&W 1076 Questions
I saw a S&W 1076 at my local pawn shop and they said the best they could do is $428 out the door. What is the going rate for a 1076? It was in ok condition nothing super with one mag, I've never shot a S&W auto or a 10mm. I shoot many other calibers but mostly revolvers. What say yall? Should I go back or let it be? It has been on the rack since May....

That's a good price for a 1076. Search the forum for 1076 and read some of the threads about it. You might be surprised what you find.

So after picking it up yesterday and playing/cleaning her up a bit (she was nasty) I noticed that she does not have the two dots under the decocker. I know there was a recall on the 1076 guns and I read that some did not get stamped as going back but did have the fix installed,so I will have to call in the am.
1. I know she has the straight grips 1911 style
2. Has the warning caution-capable of firing with magazine removed
3. 3 dot night sights that are all but dimmed out
4. One mag with the yellow mag follower
5. Does not have the checkered mag well
6. Has a little T on the bottom of the magwell at the back and a J on the front of the mag well.
I know that she is prob not a FBI gun but sounds like one of the cop guns. The first part of the serial # is TFE58XX, how far up did the serial # range go on these? Does anyone know when she was made? What grips are your favorite? I think I will need to replace these as they have seen better days, not cracked or chipped but scratched all over.

You can have the sights re-lamped for a little over $50. Contact Trijicon for details. All you will have to do is send them the slide.

The curved back grips seem to fit my hand the best. When you call on the recall check to see if they have them. The factory may not put the ..
on the gun after the recall. I sent them two guns and they left the dots off.

There is nothing about your 1076 that says it is not an FBI 1076. It is not going to be one of the obvious group that went to the FBI for initial training purposes (based on the prefix) but it could have been one that an agent carried. The checkered front strap is not a unique to FBI guns feature. If you are curious to know and have $50 to gamble then it may be worth it to send for a letter.
Also, just an observation, but the left side of the slide looks more shiney than it should. It may be just the angle of the picture but the finish looks like it has been polished to be more shiney than the duller standard finish. Either way I am sure it shoots just as well.

According to the SCSW3 they may have went up to TFK84xx (they say it is unconfirmed). I assume they started at TEUxxxx.
They also note: "Worth two to three times premium if verified as FBI issue. Produced in 1990." I would send off for the history letter. Might be worth the cost!

Thanks for the info guys, I was under the impression that the checkered front strap was a unique feature to FBI guns, being so close I may just have to take the gamble and see what come up. The gun is the same finish on both sides, the pic just makes the one side shiney looking. Thanks again and I just want to let everyone know that midway has the 10mm mags in stock again if anyone is looking.
Thanks,

Well I finally made it to the range with my 1076 today and all I can say is wow,,,,It ran like a champ and I had no problems, I did call S&W this AM and asked it the recall was performed and they said it was done in 1991 and I asked what the DOB was and the gentleman said it was made in 1990, so I guess I have a keeper. Thanks everyone for all the info.
