Default S & W 559

A friend has a 559 for sale at $600. I am thinking more like $400. It is in excellent condition.

What say you members? This will be my "Go to" 9mm with Nato spec and plus p ammo as I have other 9mm's for plinking with low pressure ammo.

Cool S&W 559 from a Friend

Better to buy from a good friend than a stranger . You can at least see the pistol in person, and not trust some pictures over the net . I've seen them in my area , if you can find 1, going $540,00 - $575.00 . And the nice part about buying from a friend, if you're not happy with it, just complain until the friend kicks back some pesos to stop your complaining. Now that's a Friend !!!!
I think it's a fair price !

$600 sounds a tad bit steep to me unless it is a rare fixed site gun or a primo unfired NIB and you prefer a steel frame 2nd gen gun.

Although I havent done any in depth research did recently pick up an unfired NIB 39-2 for $475 from a dealer and a 539 in excellent cond. for $300 private sale.
Both had extra mags.

BTW,
total production of 559's between 1980 and 1983 was 3,750 units and they weigh a hefty 41 oz compared to the 30 oz aluminum framed 459 or the 27 oz model 39-2..

Not that many of them made. If it is nickel then I would definitely buy it. If it is blue, I would haggle.

IMO, $600 is about right for a nice 559. They are pretty low numbers produced, plus I have seen a bunch over the years that were ex-police pistols, with wear to match. I doubt there are an awful lot of nice ones left. I saw a NIB 559 sell for $700 at a gunshow a couple of months ago FWIW.

Just to clarify,

From a collectors standpoint I would buy an unfired NIB 559 for $600 place it in the safe for future and not shoot it.

No mention was made about tools box, docs etc and it sounded like it has been fired.

If its a shooter I would be hard pressed to spend $600 knowing I can get an 11oz. lighter version of the same gun for $200 less .
