Default new 5906 owner

Hi

new to the forum, first post.

Finally I got around and bought a 5906 on which I had an eye for some years, but never took the plunge.
I saw a nice specimen at the local pawn shop and after reading all the good reviews on this forum again I did it.

I just love the looks of it and I am just still not into the newer "plastic" guns yet.

It's a really nice gun but man - the engineer who designed this really loved springs and levers. (and why is this little plunger in the slide made of plastic?) And what is it for, anyway?

Usually there is the prejudice for German guns that they are over engineered, but mt SIG and Mauser have about half as many parts and a fifth of the springs.

Anyway, does anybody have a description what all these thingies are for?

I have a drawing with the parts but no explanation.

Thanks guys

Great gun. One of the best wonder-nines ever made. CDNN has some for $299 right now and I keep going back to look at it. The plastic plunger is the magazine disconnect. If you want to disable the mag disconnect (I did on all of mine) you just remove that plunger and the associated spring. To remove it you have to drift the rear sight to the right until you can see the opening then the spring and plunger will fall out in your hand.

Default 5906 parts

Thank you guys!

I see that there are already a few parts discontinues by the factory.

Are there any parts that would be worth having on hand?

Thanks

Springs

Seriously though, other than spare recoil springs and maybe a firing pin and FP spring, you shouldn't need to really keep any spare parts on hand. The 5906 seems to be a pretty durable pistol.

Get the above, several magazines, a lot of ammo and go have fun.

Welcome to the forum, and good luck with your new pistol. I love mine, (I have two, I don't know why). I wouldn't want to carry it though.

Default Can't wait to shoot it...

... but it will have to wait another week, family affairs.

Usually (and luckily) my wife does not mind if I go to the range and even sometimes joins me, but this weekend if off.

jhlgun, there are two levers on the right especially the small one is a pain when reassembling the gun, what are those for?

Both firing pin safety?

And what is the functionality of the the fork-like thingy that rides backwards on top of the trigger "bar". (the moving part
when you pull the trigger and look into the gun from the top?)
I see that it's called "trigger play spring" Is there something to adjust?

Larger one is for the firing pin safety, smaller one is for the decocker.

No need to adjust the trigger play spring unless you are getting a "clicking" type sound/feel during the single action pull. Search "trigger play spring" on the forum - lots of info on this already.
