Default 4006 for a Glock 21?

Wow, I have not posted here for so long, and now I have two new threads in the span of five minutes!

The question of this thread:

Is a 'mint' condition Smith and Wesson 4006 pistol a good trade for a Second Generation Glock 21 in excellent shape?

I know virtually nothing of the Smith 4006, so that is why I am asking. I am not a big .40 shooter, but I could be persuaded if the 4006 a good trade.

How is the reliability, accuracy, comfort, etc of the 4006? As I said, I know virtually nothing about this particular pistol.

Thanks all!

This is your lucky night. I have owned both and I am here to tell you unless you have large hands, the glock will feel like a 2x4 in your hand. Yes, the glock has a higher capacity and a bigger bullet, but I could never shoot that gun as good as any of my Smith's. I subsequently sold of my 2nd gen 21 and all of my other glocks. Just didn't feel right in my hand.

I currently have the G21 and it is a MONSTER. I cannot shoot it well at all. It is so big. I truly like it, but I just can't shoot it accurately to save my life because of its size.

I have the opportunity to trade it for a 4006, but I know nothing of the 4006, and I have never really fired the .40 S&W cartridge to speak of. I don't know if it would be 'worth' it to take on another caliber.

The 4006 is one of the finest and most durable of the third generation S&W's.They are DA/SA, dbl stack 11 round magazine and they also have a lifetime warranty.
I would make that trade in a nansecond!

It will all depend on your perception of recoil. Some folks shoot the 40 and say it has more recoil than a 45. It is very subjective. It is a different kind of recoil. I find that I can shoot the the 40 and 45 equally well, much better than the 9. If I were in your shoes, I would make the deal. You won't be disappointed.

I'm not worried about the recoil really, I am just worried about buying ammo for yet another caliber. lol.

Is the 4006 all stainless steel? Heavy?

Hmmm, trade plastic (Glock) for stainless steel (S&W 4006)? That's a no-brainer!!!!

The 4006 is a boat anchor. And yet I carry my 4006TSW every day as my duty weapon. Recoil is surprisingly mild because it's all steel. I've shot the **** out of mine, nary a problem. I HATE glocks. Go on youtube and look up glock slow motion firing. Watch the videos and watch the frame flex of ANY glock. That frame flex completely changes the harmonics of the gun and that's why the recoil in a glock is so noticeable, that flex travels through the gun from the dust cover to the grip and that's why I don't like glocks. A few hunderd rounds and my hand goes numb from the vibration. Not to mention that one blew up in my face. The only plastic gun worth anything is an HK. I'd trade in a heartbeat. Just sayin'.

I have a G22 (.40S&W) and a S&W 4013 (compact alloy frame version of the 4006). The G22 is much more snappier than the 4013 IMO.

All guns have their pros and cons, but remember Glocks are a dime a dozen and the 3rd Generation Smiths are getting more expensive and harder to find. I'd take the 4006.

11 shot mag, 4" barrel, stainless slide and frame. Weight 39 oz. Made from 1990/99.
The 4006 TSW (2000/2001)featured an alloy frame and a rail, dropping the weight to 28.5 oz. Add $30-$50 to the values shown.

I have the DAO model, the 4046, got it last week and I love it. True, it's a little heavy, but I like the feel of steel, and the gun feels good in my hand. As soon as I can sell some stuff I intend to get some more Smith autos, and the 4006 or the TSW model is definitely on my list. I think you'll like it if you get it.

The alloy frame, full size .40 TSW is a 4003 I think. And, all the alloy frame guns show finish wear faster than the steel framed guns and that's why they DON'T add to the re-sale value.
