Nickel 469
Just accquired a VERY nice 469 that was advertised as stainless but turned out to be brushed nickel.I have many 3rd gen. and love them, this is my first 2nd gen.and the price was so good i could'nt pass on it.The gun is in fantastic shape and has absolutely no marring on the barrel or bushing leading me to believe it has been fired VERY little. My question for those who may know:Standard catolog shows limited run in nickel.Further research shows the limited run was for Ashland Shooting Supply and run was 25 units.I am going to contact S&W for pedigree but thought some here might know.Purchased this gun with intent of rounding trigger guard(can't stand that hook) and trimming ears of frame where grip pin is to allow use of 3rd gen grips(yes you can..have done 2 others so i KNOW you can) and Duracoat frame to have a nice inexpensive carry piece or range toy.Just not sure i want to chop up a limited run 469.Any answers will be appreciated.

I bought one 20+ years ago. I still have the original box and it has a big red sticker that says:
"Special edition handgun produced by Smith & Wesson exclusively for Ashland Shooting Supplies, Inc."
From what I've read elsewhere, they resell for around $300. If the gun is so rare, supposedly only 25 made, you would think that it would be worth more than a few dollars over original cost.

It is your pistol, but I would strongly advise against refinishing that 469 if it is in good shape. There were not many made (not sure about the 25 figure, but not many in any case) and there are LOTS of moderately worn 469's out there to refinish without ruining a collectors piece. These factory nickel 469's sell for somewhat more than a blue 469. I have seen one bring $400 at our local gunshow, without a box or even a spare mag. I think they will start to bring more money as people become aware how limited they are, and just how unique they are. Not many collectors even know there was a factory nickel 469.
I think $300 would be on the very low side value of one, unless it had a good bit of wear, no box, etc.

I had a new one years ago. I sold it because it was so inaccurate, reliable but very inaccurate.

I would leave your gun as it is and enjoy it, I would really like to see some pics of it!

While you don't see them very often, I think there are more then 25 floating around out there and my guess is S & W built them for others besides Ashland. I have two, and neither of them mention Ashland anywhere on the box, although the labels state that they were a special order item.
There are a lot of 469's out there for not much $ that are just dying for a Duracoat finish. I'd leave that one just the way it is or sell it and invest the proceeds in your project gun.

+1 I also bought one new from Ashland in late 1984 or early 1985. I went back to a M39-2 within the first year. I would recommend shooting it enough to know you want to keep it before you sink any more money into it.
On the other hand, if you don't have to qualify at 25 yards with it, you might like it just fine. As it was it was one of the prettiest handguns I've owned.
Now where are the other 22?

Yep, mine say so as well. Here is mine, and no, 3 bills will not even touch it. I got mine from a local F.B.I. friend.

After further searching, I see my $300 quote was for a blued 469 in average shape.
So what do you think would be a fair price for a nickel 469 in ex. condition?

aint been here in a while but my 469 looks or should i say used to look like the others posted.got it on GB for $275 got it home and disassembled it and it was full of cosmoline.absolutely zero wear on barrel or bushing surface.proceeded to fire up the drum sander and removed that stupid looking hook from the trigger guard and trimmed ears at back of frame so 3rd gen grip fits.next the frame got a coat of arctic shadow duracoat and slide got matte black durabake.add a set of hogue wrap around grips and you cant tell it from my 6906 edc.i know it may have been blasphemy(no one...absolutely no one loves a S&W handgun more than me)but it was a project gun.my father liked it so much he offered a trade!his UNFIRED except for factory 640 357 j frame.hey it was his idea!if i could figure out how to post pics i would.

I know this is a old thread, but I picked up a 469 last weekend at a small local gun show.
Serial # A867XXX.
From what I have read about brushed stainless? 469's it might be a Ashland Shooting Sport's edition.
Looking for more a little more on it info before I pop for a factory letter.
And cause I know alot of you would want to know what I paid for it. $210.00 with no mags.
