Need Help on Shorty 45
I have found a Shorty 45 all black with Novak sights. I know I have seen a few pics of this version on the forum, but cannot go back to them to save my life. If any of the Performance Center collector/shooters would please direct me to some pics of the all black Shorty 45, I would surely appreciate it. I do not know the product code (170075 ?). I did handle the gun on Sat. and it appears all original, but did not note the serial number. I see lots of pics of the all silver version. Thanks for any help.

A Recon 45 would be my guess as well.....although you can never say never with S&W handguns. A melonite Shorty 45 would be sweet!
Did you notice if the barrel protruded from the slide at all? Was it ported?
Do you have the first three letters of the serial number? Regards 18DAI.
Edited to add: Go in the "Post photos of your S&W" thread. theres a pic of a Recon 45 on page 52.

Shorty 45 All Black
Hi CQB and 18DAI,
Thanks for the reponse. I have a NIB Recon 45 with ported barrel. This has the Shorty 45 lazer etching on the front of the slide, I think on the right side only. I thought sure I had seen a couple of these on the forum. If the serial is an SFF and it looks original in finish? I am going to look at it this afternoon, and will probably bring it home. Grinder, if you see this please let me know what you think.
Best, S40

All Black Shorty45
Hey,
I'll try to get pics by Sat. if I can figure how to do it.....it's been a long time since I posted pics of anything. I think someone will be saying, Oh, THAT Shorty 45, I sold one just like that two years ago. I did not get to call the PC today to give the serial #. I'm going to keep looking for one like this on the forum from some time back. Thanks to all for your help.
Best,

Bert,
Thanks for your PM. If what you have is a factory original all-black shorty 45 with an SFF serial number, you got a very rare gun. The Standard Catalog of S&W lists only Stainless/aluminum. They do menition a second model of the SFF called the MK II, but it would certainly be marked as such. No mention in SCSW of the MK II finish but I think I remember it being black. I guess it could be a RECON slide on a Shorty 45 frame. A transitional gun of sorts?? Do you have the box? Does the box label have a product code #?
PLease let us know what the PC tells you.

All Black Shorty 45 - Talked To Jim Ray
I did talk to Jim Ray today. He said that there was about 100-125 all black Shorty 45's (170075) shipped to Lew Horton. I am fairly sure I have seen a couple pics on the S&W Forum, GunBroker, Auction Arms or GunsAmerica in the last few years, but I can't find them. He said they had the same SKU #. I took that to mean Product Code. He said they were black slide and black anodized frame with Novaks. Thanks so much for all the help from all.
Best regards,
s40
