BG 380 laser dot size and shape-- not good
I have a BG 380 that seems to have a defective laser. At 10 ft. the dot is a eliptical shape that is about 3/8" long wit a Halo around it. At 25 ft. it is also eliptical with th Halo around it and about 5/8 " long. With my experience in the construction industry all the lasers I used had a nice round dot and very little halo or shadow around it. I have seen $5.00 laser pointers that look better. Has anyone else had any problems. I sent it back to S&W and they sent me a replacement that is just as bad as the first one.

Mine is the same way, and I share your disappointment. Perhaps not too pretty, but I think it wouldn't really matter if it came down to its defensive use.

Clean the lens. Any little oil smudge will cause those kinds of things.

My friend's .380 BG's laser is just fine - so it's not par for the course, what you're experiencing.

My dot is sharp and clear. I'd say better than the $6500 laser I use for construction! So yes, something is wrong.

I have 2 BG380's and both lasers work great, sharp, clear and perfect size.

I have worked with different lasers, clean the lens with Qtips , any type of dust particle will create a uneven dot. just like you describe.

dwhog,
Mine did the same thing and I'm still waiting on a replacement after two months plus. For you guys that have no problems...it is NOT a "lens" issue, i.e., dust, oil, scratched, etc...

You mean you guys could actually get your laser to work? I sent my BG back to S&W twice for other issues and both times asked them to fix my laser. They never fixed it and I traded the gun off.

Mine works just fine. I'd hate to see such a fine weapon trashed because of the laser. Insight makes the laser and they sell separate laser flashlight combos for other weapons. I would assume that in the future seeing that the laser is a separate drop in unit that other companies will probable make some kind of replacement laser for it. The bodyguard has the best iron sights of all the pocket compacts. I believe that also in the future there will be tritium replacements marketed. I enjoyed shooting my pistol with both iron sights and laser.
