My New (to me) 3953
Picked it up this week, can't wait to get out and shoot it. Came with a box and three mags too.

Congrats on a fine catch. I have two 3913s but I would like to trade one of them to a 3953. I have a 6946 in DAO and would like to have a 3953 also. Enjoy....

I agree with this. The 3953 is the best 9mm Smith ever made.

Chuck, I'm a revolver guy at heart, which is why I went with the DAO. Shouldn't have trouble getting used to that trigger.

Per-zackly. My 3954 feels much like a K-Frame in trigger pull.

Isn't this about the time (late 80's) that Glock became so popular?

Carried a Glock 19 for years, and thanks to this site I became aware of the many models of 3rd Gen pistols which I had overlooked. Now, I own both a 3913 and 3953 (amongst other 3rd gen pistols). All I can say is WOW - these are great 9MMs! If you like metal pistols with hammers - these are at the top of the pile, IMHO. Great ergonomics, beautiful mechanical design, wonderful craftsmanship. AND reasonably priced.

If you get a 3913 it will replace your 6906 for CCW. The
3913s are great guns. It is hard to believe that anyone ever sells one. There is a dealer on GunBroker that is currently selling a small batch of them for $435, I think. They look like police surplus but in nice shape.

I finally got around to shooting this baby today. Great shooter. I tried sweeping the trigger through as well as staging the trigger. Very smooth and more accurate than I could shoot.
Tried it with all three mags - no hiccups whatsoever. Very pleased indeed!

I had a 3913 that I regret selling. Gun was immaculate, and all stainless controls, too. I also had a 6906 that i sold to pay for a CS9. The single stack 3rd Gen's are the best thing out there. I'd sell two M&P's for one 3913.

I'm really stumped when it comes to all the variations. Can anyone explain the differences? Models 39, 439, 539, 639, 909, 952, 3904, 3944, 3946. Apparently they all take the same mags. And now, a 3953. It's enough to drive a person to distraction. LOL

It just so happens I bought a 3953 from a private party today. A short range session shows it to be utterly reliable. The trigger is a bit more stout and has a longer pull than my Glocks, S&W M&P compact and Walther P99 QA, but it's good enough for 21 feet or less (defensive distances).
The seller included the original factory grips, which are more comfortable than the skin-grabbing Hogues that were on it.
I foolishly sold a S&W double action only pistol (4043 perhaps?) years ago, and it's good to have one back in the stable again. A dandy concealed carry gun.

That DAO trigger pull is long, as designed. However mine is very smooth. I was also able to "stage" the trigger as well, just like my S&W revolvers.

Trigger Pull
I have a 3953 on its way to me. It will share a safe with a 6906 and a 4006. Wondering how the trigger pull of this DAO model will compare to the DA pull of my 6906 and 4006?

Congrats mgo on your purchase. I love 3rd generation S&Ws. I own a 5903 and it is my best semi-auto. You will get used to the first long double action trigger pull. I am accurate out to 25 yrds so with practice you will be too. I have always believed the 3rd generation is the safest semi-auto S&W ever made.
Enjoy yours.
Regards,
Howard
