Default Help With CS40: Specs And DOB

Hello. I won this CS40 pictured below on GB and I know a bit about them, but not many details except for what is listed in the 3rd Edition of the Standard Catalog.

Can someone help me with facts like overall length and height and in what year this pistol was made in? The serial number prefix is EKY, but there is no reference to this prefix in the Standard Catalog. Also, does anyone know production numbers for this model?

Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks!

Well, since I posted this request I've discovered that information on the semi-automatic Chiefs Special line is darn scarce. However, after a lot of digging, I did find some facts from several different sources.

For those who may be interested, here's what I've found so far.

CS40 Chiefs Special specifications:
Barrel length: 3 1/4"
Overall length: 6 1/2"
Height: 4 5/8"
Width: 1 3/8"
Weight: 24.2 oz

I had a pretty good idea that my CS40 with serial # EKY7225 was an early one and Smith & Wesson confirmed this. It shipped from the factory on 2-16-1999. With 1999 being the first year of production for the CS40, this makes mine a very early example.

Congrats on the buy. I've been looking at the CS40 and think that they are a neat looking pistol. You'll have to give a range report after you get it.

Thanks, fellas!

If the USPS does its part, I should have it in my hands tomorrow afternoon. If I do, I'll get to the range on Friday.

No, just this CS40 in the CS line. Speaking of which, it didn't make it to my dealer today so I should be picking it up tomorrow.

Well X the gun looks ok, I guess. Since you are a fellow retired Cop, I will be magnanimous and trade you a classically collectable well broken in circa 1983 Ruger Police Service Six revolver, with some blueing left on it. It was gently carried in vacation spots like Bedford Stuyvescent, East New York, Brownsville and Crown Heights, NY. This is a limited time offer only, so rush down to the ffl and send it to me. You don't want to lose out on this Museum quality piece.

Please, members of this forum do not bombard me with private messages to trade your cs40. This offer is only directed towards X. Thanks

hahaha

Well, partner, as tempting as your offer is, I'm going to hold my decision in abeyance, but I'll get back to you in the very near future.

I finally got to the range with my CS40 today and what a great little shooter this pistol is!

I put around 200 rounds of assorted ammo through it including Speer Gold Dot, Federal Hydra-Shok, Remington Golden Saber, and a bunch of FMJ. It never missed a beat and the sights were dead-on at 7 yards. Accuracy was excellent.

Though I'm not crazy about the factory Hogue grips, I shot the pistol well despite them. I have a set of Big Dog grips on order and am looking forward to their arrival.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the CS40 and am glad I bought it. I think it's a keeper!

The Big Dog grips arrived today and they made a HUGE difference in the comfort of the gun. Thanks to Big Dog for making a great product! If you're not happy with your the factory-supplied Hogue rubber grips on your CS, I can highly recommend the Big Dogs.
