5906 and 59 holsters compatible?

Does anyone know if the 5906 holsters (kydex, not leather) are compatible with the original model 59?

I'm looking for a "locking retention" style kydex holster for my model 59, and I've seen them offered for the 5906...would that work?

Except for the grip frame area on a 3rd gen pistol being narrower than a 1st of 2nd gen pistols with the back strap being incorporated into the grip and slimmed down, the rest of the frame forward is basically the same (or very close) dimensions.

The Blackhawk Serpa holsters locks on the trigger guard, I think it would be a definite maybe with the trigger guards being a similar, if not actual, round shape.

Not sure about the other locking retention systems used by other holster makers.

I can tell you that my 2nd gen 559 and 3rd gen 4006 fit my molded non retention holster equally well, and the 2nd gen is not that far removed from the M59.

I had a model 459 with round trigger guard and it fit the Blackhawk Serpa Holster the same as my 5906 with round trigger guard. I do not believe the Blackhawk Serpa will accomodate the squared trigger guard.

Just to play around with, I got one of those "Israeli Tactical Retention Holster" from CDNN for $17.

I had seen the Youtube video on modifying the Sig 226 version of this holster to fit the S&W 5906, so I thought I would try the same process for the model 59. (You can find it on Youtube by searching "S&W 5906 cheap trick").

Well, it's really easy to do, and it works fine...for both the M59 AND the 3913!

So, anyone with either of these pistols looking for an inexpensive kydex retention holster, there you go!

PS. I'm still going to get the Serpa at some point.
