Default S&W model 39 why I like it.

One of my first S&W automatics was a nickel plated model 59, I was 19 and i had to have my father go with me to pick it up at Viking guns in Burlington WI.

I bought it because I wanted a 1911 and they were hard to come by at the time. I shot it quite a bit, it had black plastic grip panels and it was pretty good. I went into the Army and came back from Korea a few years later and traded it for a 469 which was pretty neat too.

But over the years i have had many 9mm autos but my favorite is the S&W model 39. It fits my hand well I shoot it well it just feels comfortable.

It is probably the one S&W auto I always look for at shows and in shops and i will always have one or two around the house.

I have a similar story and the 39/59 first gens will always be my favorites as well.
I had my first one stolen but kept all the ones I picked up through the years.
Amazingly they still pop up for $300.00 a bargain when you think that a new Sigma is $400 but that is a different beast.

Like imjin138, my first handgun was also a nickle plated Model 59 and I got it too when I was 18 or 19 on leave from the Army. It is long gone but I do now have the following 39 & 59 series of S&W automatics:
39-2 - blued
39-2 - nickle
639
3906
909
915

I think a 39 may need to find home in my safe someday, they look like a great gun!

I've got a beat up Model 39 no-dash that is by far my favorite pistol, more accurate than anything but maybe the M41, easy to carry, and just keeps on working. I did pick up an unfired late production 39-2 last year, and it's just getting broken in. It isn't as good yet as the old one, but it may come around. Both will outshoot either the 3rd gen 9mm or .45 pistols.
