Grip pin.

Can the grip pin on a S&W 5906 be driven out in either direction ? Do they sometimes gald up . I got a tight one & dont want to ruin anything. Great forum Thanks ,Poorboycjs

They can be driven out in either direction, but the pin is under a bit of tension from the hammer main spring.

The center of the grip pin has a shallow groove that the rounded end of the main spring cap fits in, that's the resistance you're feeling. Go ahead and give the punch a good smack, the pin has to slight compress the spring as the cap moves out of the groove.

Grip Pin .

Hi Gunhacker, Thanks for the reply. I soaked that pin with Kroil overnite. A hard tap got it to move. When I got it out the pin was rusty. Also found surface rust ,under the grip in the stainless . Did not think stainless would rust. Cleaned up nicely. Nice pictures on removeal & install of grips. Thanks, Poorboy.
 
I've moved the one on my 6906 both ways and it didn't seem to matter...it just takes a good whack with a hammer and a punch.
