Question Model 645 price check

Ran across a 645 today for $399.00 firm. Comes with one, what looks to be, original magazine. Fixed sights (WO rear / RR front). Stocks are Pachmayr replacements. Overall I'd say it's tight, clean and in excellent condition. Too high, about right or a steal? TIA

Thats a little low for a 645 as you describe.

My local shop has one that is fairly used with holster rash - no box or docs for $450.

Great 45. I'd jump on it for that price. Good luck! Regards 18DAI.

Steal. Please buy it or direct me personally where it is so that I may do so.
Best,

I paid 525.00 LNIB for mine a couple of years ago. The previous owner only put a box through it. I do not shoot mine alot, ( recently I have been buying PC revolvers), but it would be one of the last pistols that I would sell..buy it and don't look back!

That's a good deal. Im purchased an ew old dealers stock with 4 mags for $500 several years ago. My 645 is totally reliable with a wide variety of reloads from 185 gr. LSWC to 230 gr. FMJ's.

WooHoo!

Went back yesterday (Gander Mountain) and decided to buy it. Got delayed on the back ground check (two gunshows, one local apparently caused a backlog) so went back today and was pleasantly surprised. I'd asked yesterday if the gun came with any extras and was told no. Today when the clerk brought it from the back it was in it's original box with all paperwork, cleaning rod and mop as well as the spare magazine! Wasn't able to use my coupon so it was $422.00 OTD but I'm still pleased. Pics later.

Checked the SCSW 3rd edition last night and the serial # shows 1987 manufacture. She looks darn nice for being close to 24 years old. Would this firearm fall into the category for S&W's lifetime warranty?

Gander Mountain wanted to sell me a years warranty for $29.99. Told them I would just send it to S&W if it had warranty issues, which I don't anticipate it every having but then I got to wondering if it would be covered by S&W?

Plus I saw on their sign that GM is an authorized S&W repair facility. If that's the case then what would my $29.99 have really bought me? I figure they would fix a warranty issue and get reimbursed by S&W for the repairs or actually ship it back to S&W so in essence, either way pocketing my $29.99 as pure profit.

Very nice! Congrats!

The 645 doesn't get alot of recognition. I find it to be an ultra reliable tack driver. Good looking pistol too. Regards 18DAI.

Thumbs up

My last experience wasn't the best at Gander, but if I could find something that nice, at that price, I could swallow my pride. Nice find!!!!

That was my first experience with GM and I can't say it was the best experience. Everyone wanted to stand around and refill the ammo displays rather then assist me at the counter.

Absolutely no give on price which to me at least buying a firearm, particularly a "used" firearm is akin to buying a used car. You always haggle at least a little.

Plus the mountain of paperwork, (I've never had to sign or fill out nearly this much with other purchases, new or used) was a pain.

That being said I will be visiting their used gun section on a regular basis to see if any more deals pop up.

They've been here for several years now and I've visited the store at least a dozen, if not two dozen times and this is the first item I've purchased other than a Spyderco Endura and even then, had I not had a gift card and a discount coupon I'd have bought that for less elsewhere.

Default 645 Price check update

I know this is an older thread but was hoping for an update. I found a 645 near perfect condition, in the box and never fired since it was purchased new. The lowest I can get them down to is $ 795. Was hoping to get some input on if that's a good deal or too high ?

Thanks

Unless you plan on making it a safe queen, move on. That is a lot of money for a 645.

I agree. If buying because you need it to fill a void in your collection, then maybe. If you are buying to carry/shoot, I'd look for something else.

There are only so many "unfired' 645's out there but even if it's 100% perfect and complete that's pretty steep. I was stoked to get mine for $425 all in and were I in the market for another one just like it I'd probably as high as $550, maybe $600 but that would be tops for me.

High, older smith revolvers are bringing the money. I own a 645 my dad baught me damn near new 85. no box, long story but mine is going up every year. If you buy it be prepared to wait. Lots of more orphans that can be picked up at abetter value. YMMV

Default Just bought one

Hi guys (and maybe gals?),
I have been a member of this forum for at least a couple of years now but this is my first post of any kind I think. I just found a 645, one mag, no box here in a Palm Beach County gun shop for $379 and was thrilled to buy it at that price.
It had several scratches on the polished parts but they cleaned up like new with a green Scotch-Brite pad. Sorry about quality of pics - not skilled with photos.
One problem though: the right side safety lever and screw are missing. Found the screw on line but not the safety lever yet - out of stock everywhere.
Apparently it is the same lever as the 639 and 659. So... anybody out there with a spare to sell me?

Hello,
Nice first post, and love the 645. Not uncommon to see the missing lever, and for the money you stole that one. You will love it, ridiculously reliable to the point that it will cycle empty brass from the magazine and quite accurate. I love mine, and you will to.

Default It's a handsome gun

The 645 is a big, handsome gun. That seems to be the right way to describe it. But of course what really makes it special is its reputation for reliability. Its looks wouldn't impress if it wasn't highly functional. I am very happy to have found one in good shape and I'm looking forward to shooting it - the shop let me shoot 6 rounds through it as a test but that is all I've shot it so far.
Do you think I will have any luck finding that right side safety lever? I imagine they might be hard to come by if it is a commonly lost item. I saw a comment somewhere that they aren't made anymore but I hope that isn't correct.

Default LOKING FOR A 645

I AM LOOKING FOR A GOOD 645 AT A 'REASONABLE' PRICE.
I WOULD LIKE TO THROW IN A GOOD S&W 4006, 40 CAL.
THIS GUN IS IN GREAT SHAPE, I BOUGHT TWO AND ONLY NEED ONE. MY IDEA IS TO GET A COLLECTION OF DIFFERENT CALIBERS WITH LOOK ALIKE QUALITIES. THIS IS MY FIRST TIME ON LINE SO, LET ME INTRODUCE MYSELF, I AM 71 YOA AND A RETIRED POLICE MAJOR. FROM A RATHER MEDIUM SIZED TOWN IN SOUTH GA.

P.S.: I HAVE THE PAPERWORK ON THE TWO 40s. THEY ARE BOTH IN GREAT CONDITION AND HAVE EITHER BEEN REWORKED INTERNALLY OR CARRIED BY AN OFFICER WHO WAS LIKE ME AND ONLY SHOT THEM TWICE A YEAR FOR QUALIFICATION.

THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS, ANY INFO OR ADVICE WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

FORMER MAJOR, RETIRED

Welcome to the forum greyghost803!

I think you might have better luck finding a nice 645, if you post an ad in the "want to buy" ,WTB section of the forum. Its near the bottom of the categories page.

Many shooters here who might have a nice spare for you. Good luck with the search! Regards 18DAI
