Default 1066 SSV, This barrel conversion thing is getting a little wild

Oh Boy,
Took the 4013 slide with the converted 10 m.m. barrel in it and put it on top of the 1066 and
now have a "1066 Short Slide Variation".
I have to say that the 4013/10 m.m. is much lighter.

A limited number of 5616-2 and 4536 10 m.m. conversion barrels are available.
See post in ths link.

Would that be an easy thing to do with a 1006 frame?

I've considered getting a shorter slide for it... but it seems an expensive route. Are there any sources for those slides?

I like the concept and compactness but would like to see about velocity performance loss due to the shorter barrel. They could be slightly less than the Glock 29 with the 3.78" barrels. Faster powders like Power Pistol and LongShot help maintain performance over the slower powders.

And with a lack of slide mass, tailoring recoil springs to compensate thereof, in an effort to control violent slide velocity is a must! I would estimate atleast 22#-23#-24# recoil spring.

Waiting for the actual shooting report!

BM1,
Except for the cartridge you have recreated the 4596s sold through Lew Horton, 4516 slides on 4506 frames. I always assumed S&W never sold a model 1016 because the allowable recoil spring length combined with lower slide mass increased slide velosity too much but it may have been only due to marketing considerations. So far as I know Glock is the only compay that has mass produced 10 MM autos with barrels under 4".

I strongly recommend the below product if you are using a aluminum frame.
In case the springs don't absorb all the recoil, it will prevent the slide from battering the frame.
It is simple solution to a potential catastrophe.
I use a similar product in my Berettas that use hot .40 hunting loads.

K22fan,
The 4013 Single Stack barrel/slide is 1/8" shorter than the 4516 slide.
With the dual recoil spring assembly, the outer spring can be replaced with as much as the wolff 24# spring.
When combined with the stock factory inner spring, it's so strong, it's almost impossible to rack the slide.
With the short 3.625" barrel, the impulse is far less than the 4.25" and 5.00".

Shadow1006,
I have a full range of springs to test the "1066 SSV".
I will report when I get a chance to get to the range, been a little busy.

KurtC,
Good idea, I am going to order a few, thanks for the link.
I think it would defiantly help the "1013" quite a bit.

Screwball,
All the 10XX series share the same size dust cover length and are of similar design and size.
The 1006 and 1026 beaver tails are a little more squared off and are the longest of the 10XX series.
The 1066 and 1076 is a similar style but a little shorter in length.
The 1046 and 1086 has the shorter style also but is a more rounded.

Have you tried Numrish for the slide?

Regards,
BM1

The 4013 Single Stack dust cover is 1/8" shorter than the 1066 and grip length is defiantly shorter.
The 1013 and 1066 SSV that S&W never built, but should have.
My contacts at S&W said that's what it was going to be, hence, the simple conversion.

I saw them last night...

I'm guessing it is a stripped slide so I can see the price of getting it setup for my use going through the roof (I'm not even sure about the bushing). If I can afford it later on, I'll go that route. Does look promising.
