Default 6906 vs 3913

Which do you prefer, and why. Same external dimensions except for the width. Mag capacity, concealment, grip preference etc. are all features that one may favor one model, over the other. Thanks

I have both and I enjoy both of them, but I prefer the 3913 due to the width of the grip. I don't have large hands so the 3913 feel more comfortable to me. If you like the 6906 you would like the 4013 same size grip. The 6906 does have limitations on availability of aftermarket grips. I guess overall, what ever one feels comfortable to you and shoots well should be your choice.

Pretty much what Kcode said above. I've got both the 6904 and 3913 - both very nice pistols. I carry a 3953, which could best be described as a DAO 3913. My grip is better with my 39's than the 6904. But the uppers of the 6906 and 3913 are virtually identical.

I like the slimness of the 3913 but I have to admit the 6906 type is a nice balance of capacity and size. I remember being a kid when the 469 came out and thinking it was the neatest thing ever.

I've got a 6906 and am looking at the 3913 as my next buy, they both fit a need. The 6906 by nature has a fatter grip, which is exaggerated if you use Hogue aftermarket grips.

I sold the 3913 and kept the 6906. It's nice to be able to share mags with the 59 series guns at the range, and it's the host for a slide swap right now. (5906 slide on the 6906 frame). Now THAT is a nice compromise.

I've owned both. The 3913 was easier to carry. I now have a CS9. For carry, I'm looking for the lightest hammer fired gun I can find in 9MM. I'm even looking at the Ruger LC9 to possibly replace the CS9. 4 ounces lighter and same firepower.

Just be careful or you will end up like me. Those 3rd gen S&Ws are additive.

I have small hands and the 3013 fits my hands better. I ended up getting a 3953 (double-action only) for conceal carry.

Dont have a 3913, but do have a 908 which is same except it has plastic guide rod and safety is not ambidexterous. I do have a 6906 and it points very nicely.

Single versus double stack is what it boils down to.....13 vs 9 rds. Single is usually more CCW friendly. FWIW....IMHO.

Have had both over the years. I've had one 3913 an several 6906's all of which I keep selling. Nothing fits better than the 3913 for me!

Default 6904 vs. 3913

I have a 6904 and am looking into a 3913 as both are very nice semi-autos. I may keep the 39 as a backup to the 69 and carry them both!Just kidding.

3913 is my favorite 3rd gen. I like the 4040pd as well but that's another topic altogether....

My 3913 carries well. its a nice balance between capacity, size and comfort.

I have a 6906, a 6946, and a 5903. I have had a 3953. All are great guns. I don't find the additional grip width of the 6906 to be a problem, and I like the fact that it will accept the 5903 magazines.

I love my 6906. It's a little chunky but it works for me. With the Hogue grip it was way too fat. Still, if I could find me a single stack (and had the funds available) I'd love to try one out.

Default Third Generation S&W Semi-Autos are Addictive!

Howdy everybody, just joined this forum. I know this is a way old thread but.....have to agree with deanodog. Third generation Smith semi-autos are addictive. I had a 3913 and a 6906, which unfortunately I sold. I still have my 3953 and 6946 (DAO version of each,) and also have bids out for another 3913 and 6906 to replace the ones I foolishly sold. Hopefully in a couple of days I will have won the bids on them. They are built like tanks, last forever and shoot fine. They are also quite concealable and make for great EDC's.

I picked up a 6906 this year and was expecting it to be a bit bigger than it is. My 3913 has Hogue grips so the difference is almost negligible. I'm looking for a set of factory grips for my 3913 to get it back to original, then I could do a fair comparison.

All my xx13 guns are very much alike, 4513, 3913 and 6906 (which should be numbered the 6913).

I don't think anyone would be disappointed with any of them, and the more of them I acquire the happier I am!

I carried one or another issued 6906 for several years. Fired upwards of an estimated 45+K rounds through one of them (yes, it required some maintenance and parts replacements ). Good pistol. I rather liked the ones I carried.

I found that the thick grip of the 6906 was improved by the Hogue wrap-around grips w/finger grooves. Weird, since I didn't like them on the 59XX guns, and the Hogues for them didn't have the added finger grooves ... but there you go.

Using a couple of very good quality kydex and leather holsters for the 6906, I still found it to offer more of a lump against my side throughout the long hours of days & nights than my 3913 (which also wore Hogue panels most of the time).

If I'd been given my druthers, I'd have cheerfully traded my issued 6906 for an issued 3913. The extra 4 rounds of mag capacity just didn't concern me overly much. (I finished my career carrying an issued 4013TSW, followed by a 4513TSW ... so capacity varied now and again. )

While I've always had it in the back of my mind to pick up a nice used late production 6906 someday, I still feel my 3913 & CS9 are slimmer enough through the grip frame to be a bit more comfortable. They also pocket holster a bit better.

My 3913 carried very well. I really liked that gun. I passed it on to my son when I purchased my M&P FS. I really like that gun! I do miss the 3913 some, the fact that it is a 3rd gen gun had a lot going for it, it was hard to part with it. But my son is now a happy camper. Makes me happy too.

I've owned three 6906's and four 39XX series pistols over the years. I still own the 39XX guns and sold/traded all the 6906's away.

Not that they were not nice guns, they were. The 6906's just didn't do anything better than the 3913's. They were a little bulkier in the grip. Too much so for my liking.

I prefer the 39XX series guns for carry guns. Being an old revolver guy, capacity is not one of my concerns. Relibility and an accurate FIRST SHOT are. The 39XX series gives me both of those qualities in spades. Regards 18DAI

I have both the 3914 (blued version of the 3913) and a 6906. My hands are on the small size, I wear small or medium sized gloves depending on the brand. I shoot the 3913/4 better. It feels good in my hands even with the stock grips. I use the 3914 for CC and the 6906 for a house gun.

I have a 4006 that I will be selling because I want a smaller single-stack gun in my lone .40. I'm looking for a 4013 or will consider a Sig P239.

I have a 6906 I bought new probably 10-15 years ago and have never fired it. I read a comparison article and the author raved about it. I have very big hands and it feels great to me. I'm more of a revolver guy, but I better get that pistol out and shoot it.
