Thumbs up 10 mm Joy!

I am not new to 10mm pistols, but I just got my first 10 mm S&W. It is such a joy! Built really solid, feels solid, runs solid. Fun to shoot. The 1076 is everything I wanted it to be. Accurate from the first shot, easy to carry and conceal. I do need to pick a better regular carry holster so I can put it into my regular carry rotation, and some spare mags. But right now I am sure having fun shooting my new prize. If you do not have one you do not know what you are missing.

S&W 45 Colt, Congrats with the 1076! Yes they are great shooters for the 10mm platform as are all of the 10xx series models!

Enjoy...Best regards!

CDNN has had new factory 10XX mags available for around $30.

Have fun and enjoy. A 1006 was my first 10mm. Wait till you try a 610!

seagiant, nice 645...Oh! I love the smell of Blue Dot burning in the morning! Glad to hear you're casting and shootin' your own. Sweet!

Too hot to do much casting down here right now...temps over 95 deg. humidity & dripping sweat. Good time to sit inside & load'em up!

Sounds great!

I had a 1086 for awhile that I still miss from time to time; the 1000 and 4500 series are just a tad big for my little girl hands.

Thumbs up 10mm Slippery Slope

Many interesting replies. Thank You All. I checked CDNN and did not find any 10 series mags. Please correct me if I am wrong. I did find 10 series mags at Midway, $33.99 ea. Backorder. I have been thinking a 1006 or 1066 migh be nice to try, but I am afraid that both might fail to measure up to my 1076. I had a first version 610, it did not work out for me. ( I prefer the 41 mag or 45 colt in revolvers anyway.) The Glock 10mm is fun, but not as handy as the 1076, or as easily concealed. I realy like this pistol!!

I just started reloading for my 1006. After a little research I picked Accurate #9 pushing a 180gr HDY XTP. Gonna start at 12.2 grs with WIN LP primers. How does this load sound to everyone? Also, do I need to replace the stock recoil spring in the 1006 to handle full power loads?

Thanks

Let me be the first to welcome you to the forum.

With 180 g. GDHP's, I have run as much as 14.5g. of Accurate#9, 1,250fps, @35,500psi
It's a real hot load, allot of flash, work up easy.
I would get a Wolff Recoil Calibration Pak for the 4506 (same springs) with the heavier pound springs, up to 24#.
The 1006 is not listed as a pack, singles only.
Talk to them and ask some questions, they are good folks.

Regards,
BM1

Thanks for the info Bad Man One. Do you have trouble getting the correct COL whith that much powder? I adjusted my seating die to get the correct length with a dummy case (no powder). Then when I used it on the real thing, they were to long by .01 - .02. I adjusted the die down a little more. How close do you have to be on COL? Is this what compressin is?
Thanks

Default First Reloads

Ok, I have attached a few pictures of my reload cases after firing. They seemed a little heavy and accuracy was pretty poor. The guy at the range said they looked like they were seated to deep.

Used HDY XTP 180gr, 12.3gr A#9, WLP Primer, Set bullet to 1.250" COL. Starline brass.

My question is the cases have some funky pattern on them, is this an indication of overpressure?

Had all of the ones you listed S&W 45 Colt, and a 1086 to boot. My favorite was the 1086, which is semi-retired now that I have a Colt Delta Elite. I still prefer to Smith 10xx to the Colt as they are just better built for the 10mm round!
Enjoy your 1076, but be warned! The 10mm can be intoxicating, you'll want MORE! Dale

I don't see an over-pressure problem, the primers look good.
The outside of the cases look a little funny, how's the chamber?
Might need a little polishing?

Well to be honest I answered your post on The Firing Line Forum, agreeing with the fello who mentioned that the slide may have unlocked early, causing the firing pin drag mark and the marking on the cases as they were trying to eject under the pressure. AA# 9 is a good powder but it is a slow burning as compared to others, recoil springs can affect the timing of the slide with various loadings.

I use the Wolff Gun Springs 22lb recoil spring for S&W1006 for most of my loads, it works with my 40S&W & 9x25 Dillon conversion barrels and loadings as well.

I have the 24lb but only use it for extreme testing, it does make the slide tougher to rack( not good in a defensive situation).

Best regards!

They didn't seem so bad when I shot them, a little more kick them some of the factory stuff I shot that same day. I think that I will replace the recoil spring with a Wolf 22#. I bought the gun new in 1992 and it still has the original recoil spring, so I am thinking it is a little worn. So I believe that JohnKSa may be correct in that the slide was opening early on me.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'll let you know what happens with the new spring.

can anyone tell me if there's a thread that explains the differences between the 1076, 1006 and any other SW semi-auto 10mms? I need to have one! But first, of course, need to find out which one's right for me. Been searching this site for a little while and haven't found the basic 411 on SW semi-auto 10mms yet. I like having a hammer, vs hammerless....
