Default New to me Model 41 needs rear sight

I just bought a Model 41 1978/1979 A573xxx. It had a Tasco ProPoint mounted but the rear sight had been removed and the seller didn't have it.

Here's my problem: The dove tail on this gun is smaller than the current Model 41 dove tail, so a readily available sight for a 41 will not fit this older model gun.

I called S&W and the fellow said "Yup. It won't fit." When I asked if he had the smaller ones he said "Sorry, no."

I called Guns and Gun Parts but he's out for the weekend.

When I search for rear sights for the 41 they are all the newer size dove tail. The older one is .3875 inch across the opening. The new one is .50 inch.

Any ideas?

Gun Parts or...

something tells me an old bullseye shooter might be able to put you in touch with someone that might have one. Or maybe a gunsmith at a major bullseye competition.

or this guy Gun Sights

Or somebody at a gunshow

Keep looking you'lll find one.

If it has the 5.5 inch barrel on it the rear sight should be the same as the one thats on a Model 52. I know they are hard to find too but will open up your options.

If or when all else fails I would get the new one and trim it down to fit your dovetail. Or if you're not comfortable with that, have your local smith do it.

The sight is a "Millet" sight you should not have any problem to get a new sight for your 41.

I don't know if you will find one. I have a model 41, both barrel lengths. Bought it over 20 years ago with 7 inch barrel and scope. Bought a 5 inch from SW with
sights. Have looked for almost 20 years and not found them for 7inch.
