Default Devel 39-2

I own a S & W Devel 39-2. I am wondering if anyone could tell me if ASP grips would fit this gun. Thanks.

The Devel and ASP stocks do not interchange.

Depending on what model Devel pistol you have: Standard or Deluxe, the grips (stocks) were either standard factory S&W Model 39 wood stocks or for the Deluxe modified models they were custom linen Micarta stocks.

The Asp pistol stocks were made of high impact Lexan with a matte blasted finish. These often cracked at the stress points (mostly near the screw holes).

You can custom make stocks for the custom Devel pistols out of Micarta or Zytel engineering plastic if you are handy. The biggest thing to look out for is the relief points on the inside of the stocks where the double action bar pivots inside the frame.

ASP pistols (both by Seventrees and ASP (Wisconsin) are very expensive collectors items now......there is a high demand for the original stocks since most ASPs that have been fired show some sort of damage to the stocks.

Devels were mostly custom carry pistols that were an answer to the lack of availability fo the ASP pistol......most Devels were carried and fired often. Original Devel stocks, both factory wood (model 39) or polymer 59 with the Devel logo added and the custom Micarta stocks are also very collectable, but they hold up to daily carry wear and firing better than the ASP pistol stocks.

Good Luck

I bought one two years ago and paid around $1200. I paid it because it had the same sequence number as my DEVEL 59 - so I kinda have a "matched set". I missed one at the Valley Forge PA show this year for $1200 - I thought that was a pretty good deal. Condition as well as accessories have a big impact on value. The lexan windows are prone to cracking, and the cloisonne (sp) badges sometimes fall off. It's a niche gun and requires a special buyer. They pop up on the sites every once in awhile. I rarely see them sell for the price the seller is asking. Post a picture of it if you get a chance.

My DEVEL and ASP Pistols Together. You can see the grips aren't even close to fitting or exchanging with one another. Screw holes and shapes are totally off.

Hi there...

I have a Devel 39-2, just like the one pictured above and would like to buy at least one extra mag if I decide to keep it. Do you have any recommendations where I might be able to buy one? I'm in So CA.

Thanks guys.

Many, many years ago I had a friend that was issued a real ASP. Well 2 actually, one for practice, one for serious carry. I was allowed to shoot, [I was in High School], his practice ASP quite a bit.
Once you became accustomed to the Guttersnipe sight it was scary accurate, and very functionable, for a close range combat gun.

If I remember correctly, the ASP was set up to shoot the 100gr Winchester Power point 9mm ammo. I was gifted "several" cases of it...

I used it for years in the 2 Mod 39's, in Nickle I later bought...
Never had a malfunction...

I am suprised that today some company does not make a Guttersnipe sight for one of the Officer Model 1911's in 45 ACP.

Seems it is Technology, that has been lost to the Ages...

The guttersnipe sight is on the Colt New Agent, no?

And one of the DeVel cloisonné emblems did pop off mine; watch those things like a hawk! For a custom gun of the period, have to say I'm not impressed with the trigger.

They were state-of-the-art back in those days---and still pretty neat today---the first trend towards modern DA/SA compact pistols---ahead of their time.

Default 3 D Print Stocks

Folks,
These new low price 3 D printers could be used to duplicate stocks for a reasonable price.
I wonder why nobody has done the deed.
There are also digital pantograph systems which are no longer expensive.
