PC Shorty 45 vs Shorty 9
Im thinking about purchasing a PC Shorty 45 and a Shorty 9.
Im concerned about the recoil on the Shorty 45 affecting accuracy due to the small size of the pistol.
Owners of the Shorty 45 or anyone who has fired the pistol I would appreciate your feedback.
I have several .45s but Im just wondering how much more recoil is in this 3.5"barrel, smaller frame pistol?
Is it more difficult to get back on target compared to a full size 4"barrel .45?
Thanks Much

My Shorty 45 MK-II is one of my favorite auto loaders.
Recoil does not alter accuracy.
However the way a shooter reacts to recoil can affect group size (not firearm accuracy). Most commonly we are talking about flinching.
If you think that the recoil of a 45 is heavy, then a small alloy framed 45 is not for you and you should probably go for the 9MM.

Shorty 45
I have no problems shooting my .45's but I guess my question is how much more recoil does a Shorty 45 have vs a normal size .45 due to its smaller size?
Im just trying to figure out how much more recoil a shorty 45 has and if its more difficult to get back on target compared to a 4"or 4.5" barrel .45?

Recoil is subjective. What recoil I find objectionable, you may not be bothered by.
That said, I find the recoil of my PC Shorty 45 to be stout and the muzzle flip average.
Since I don't have a PC9 or Shorty 9, I'll compare it to the 6906.
The Shorty 45 has more felt recoil and muzzle flip than a 6906, FOR ME.
If you are not experienced with 45's the light weight Shorty 45 may not be the best "first 45", IMO. Good luck! Regards 18DAI.

Shorty 45
I have several .45's that I enjoy shooting and I have no problem with the recoil on them, Im just trying to figure out how much more recoil is in a 3.5" barrel Shorty 45 compared to my 4" and 4.25" barrel .45s.
I have heard some people complain about the Shorty 40(40S&W) recoil.
Personally I prefer to shoot the .45 over the 40S&W.
Thanks for the feedback

I shoot a short barreled alloy framed 4014 which is of course chambered in .40 S&W, and which I think is generally the same frame size as a Shorty 40.
I find it very pleasurable to shoot. There is a little more felt recoil than when shooting a fullsized 9 mm, like one of my 5906's, but it is not much more and is not the "violent" nor "snappy" recoil that you always read about.
Sometimes I think that the "snappy" term is just repeated by guys who have never shot a .40.
I was just talking to a cop thatI'm trying to buy an O/U skeet shotgun from and the discussion of carry guns came up. His department carries .40 S&W Glocks and while he is not a big Glock fan and prefers his H&K's, he really likes the .40 S&W.

You really would not like the shorty 45. Don't buy it.
By the way, who did you say has one for sale?

This is a question that only you can really answer. All firearms have some recoil but it is hugely subjective. Mine recoils more than my FNP 45 and less than my Karh PM 45.
The grip on the Shorty is almost long enough for all of my fingers without squeezing. They all fit, but it's a little bit of a squeeze. So it's not really that small. It is light though so it snaps a bit more than a 4516 which is the same size but is all steel.
Good luck.

Good thinking. Buy them both. I have one of each. Performance Center pistols shoot great. You may have to find a load that suits you for the Shorty 45, but you will like it. I have qualified with the PC 9 Recon and the PC 945 with 3.75" barrel. I find the recoil just a little stout but not enough that it bothers me. Shoot it enough to get used to it. I also qualify with the 40 S&W and 357 Sig so I am use to the snappy recoil. The PC put extended ported barrels on the 40 Recon and 45 Recon to help with the snap. I had the PC make an extra nonported flush barrel for mine because I feel the ported barrel has other side effects that I do not want while I can deal with the snappy recoil.
